For those awaiting c-sections....

Hi ladies,

I had a c/s with DD last Tuesday because she was breech.  I was really nervous about a c/s, having had a vaginal delivery with DS.  However, I have to say that 6 days later, I feel great!

We roomed in with baby the first night, and it was rough.  I didn't sleep at all.  The first day post-op was also bad, so we decided to send LO to the nursery, and even let them give her 2 bottles of formula.  I am so glad I did that.  I was able to rest, which my body desperately needed.  The last night, DH went home and I sent DD to the nursery again.  They brought her to me to BF, but I still got a decent rest.

I just wanted to post this for the other mamas who might be nervous about their c/s.  Good luck!

DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.

  • I just wanted to say thank you for posting this.  I read and hear so many horror stories about c-sections.

I also had a c-section and felt great before I even left the hospital.  I was moving around and stuff by day 2 even though I was still on meds. I stopped taking the pain meds they sent me home with by day 10 but I had decreased the frequency of the dosage from every 3 hours (alternating between Motrin and Tylenol 3) to every 6.

I know everyone is different but there are good stories out there.

  • Thank you I am scheduled for Friday and I am nervous about even more pain.  Glad you are feeling better.
  • Mine was last Tuesday, and I agree - not as bad as I expected.  One of the worst parts for me was they had to attempt the spinal block/epidural twice - and that hurt!  For whatever reason, they had problems getting it in the first time, so they stopped, had me shift a little, and retried, and it worked - thank goodness!

They kept the epidural in for nearly 24 hours for me, and then had me get up the afternoon of the second day to got to the restroom - getting in and out of bed was definitely painful the first day they let me up, but it slowly got better each day.  We kept LO in the room every night, but DH stayed, so if he was in the bassinet, he'd get up to bring me LO to nurse, and took care of all the diaper changes.  We've been home since last Friday, and I'm definitely feeling better every day.  We're taking short walks outside (i.e. like 3 blocks or so), and those will get longer as I feel better.

I'm still on pain meds, but don't take them as often as I could.
