I read in the UO thread about how facing your LO forward in the Baby Bjorn is not the best idea? I had not heard this. What are the concerns? I am a big fan of my Bjorn and I definitely don't want to be doing anything dangerous.
I got a beco Gemini are mostly wear her facing in but occasionally let her face out because she likes it but I wouldn't do it regularly or for long periods of time.

this. I got the Beco too, even facing out, their legs are more supported than with something like the Bjorn

I'm not sure why to not face them forward... I will have to watch this to see if there's an answer! I do have a Bjorn and I was checking it out last time he was in it for "crotch dangling" and DS doesn't. His knees stay bent and he kind of "sits" in it. And he is by no means a small baby! I also wonder when he gets bigger if he will become a "dangler."

You are not supposed to face them forward, because they can get overwhelmed easily and have no way of "hiding". Too many impressions for such a little baby with no shoulder or chest to snuggle into and be reassured.
The crotch danglers are not good in either position. The carrier should have a wide enough seat that the legs are not just hanging down. The thighs should be supported and the kid should really sit, not hang in it.
I have the Britax. I rarely use it but am curious if it has the same problem as the bjorn. Anyone know?
I am going on vacation next month and planned on using it most of the trip.
Just make sure she says in a sitting position and "froggy legs". I have an Ergo and really like it. DS likes the side position. I got it off Craigslist half price. If you really like wearing look into getting a good, quality carrier.

Crotch dangers are not good for their hips, and outward facing can easily overstimulate a baby and does not allow them to escape this overstimulation. It also does not allow for a way for baby to rest their head.
I heard it's not good for them to face forward too. I was a bit bummed when i realized he can't face forward in my ergo performance but the bigger he gets I realize it's really not a big issue cause he turns his head to see everything he needs to see. And what I love best is he crashes out and sleeps great while in the ergo - I don't think he would if he was facing forward. Sunday we were at a pool most the afternoon and he took two naps strapped in the ergo (between his first swim!). The other thing i love about the performance is that it doesn't seem to get as hot as the all clothe carriers. My little guy seems to get hot easily but I feel like he's comfortable in up to about 80 degree weather in the performance. I take long walks with him in the ergo (1.5 hours+). Love it!

I have the Ergo and LOVE using it in the side carry position. It is so comfortable (even with a 20+lb baby) and E gets a good mix of taking in the action and cuddling into me when he has had enough. I really recommend the Ergo, definitely worth the extra $$ in my opinion.

Of course they'd add random dr.s endorsing their products. The only one I'd even consider from their website is the ergonomic waist belt carrier. It seems to keep the legs in the proper position. Do you notice how most of the other pictures are cut off at the waist? The legs dangle and it's bad for the baby's hips.

I too had heard that forward facing in the Bjorn could be bad for hips, etc. so I asked the pedi about this. She said she understood the concerns but it was fine for short periods of time. (I was relieved bc my little guy LOVES it when we walk in the woods/trails near home w/the bjorn.)

That is a really subjective reason. I've never heard such a thing. They face the world from a stroller and we are much farther from them and can't be there to reassure them. Should we not use them as well?
My son doesn't hide from things when we're out. He's fairly silent and calm when facing out in my Beco because he feels secure being on me and he's captivated by all the cool things/people he sees. He often smiles at people that interact with him. I actually miss getting to see his cute face when he faces out but he clearly prefers it. When he faces me he is just constantly whipping his head around to see forward.

It is bad for their hips to be forward facing.
This babywearing blog explains it.
