What is this all about?

DS is still not STTN but whatever, he'll do it when he's ready I guess. Within the last week, he has been crying or screaming in his sleep at night. He did it a couple of times last night after I put him in bed for the evening. He never opened his eyes, even when I picked him up. I wondered if he was overly tired because he didn't nap much yesterday; I thought maybe he was having trouble going into a deeper sleep. He has also cried when he's been napping in his swing. Sometimes, replacing the pacifier works, other times nursing him seems to help. He's not sick and is perfectly happy during the day. I've wondered if maybe he is teething because he's drooling like crazy and sticks everything in his mouth and chews on it, though I can't see any teeth emerging or even feel any bulging in his gums. I'm not sure what to make of this crying/screaming. I hope it's just a phase....

  • Z cries in his sleep too. It wont be a full on meltdown, but a little wail that will make me look at the monitor. I figure its how he talks in his sleep. Personally I dont pick him up unless he is awake and fussy/crying. I figure Ill take my break/ability to use both hands at once whenever I can!!

  • DS did that when he was teething sometimes. It was pitiful to hear him crying in his sleep like that, but it did get better with later teeth. I guess he got used to it. If it is teeth, it can take a while. In his case, we saw white bumps at 3 months and they never actually raised or broke through til 8 months. Then it seemed like they came all at once. Good luck!

  • My LO has been crying before her naps and shoves the soother in her mouth to chew it.  She drools A LOT and gets this annoyed cry.  Her two bottom front teeth are just poking through.  So it's possible your LO is teething.
