How to ease younger LO when older LO is in preschool?

My oldest starts preschool this fall but this week started vacation bible school at the preschool he will be attending.  My kids are 15 months apart and are connected at the hip (very close and get along amazingly)!  I realize its only day 2 but each morning my youngest is in pure devastation of her brother going to school and she's not.  Yesterday she clinged to him the whole day/night after picking him up.  She cries on the drive home from school for him.  I'm trying to do fun things with her (special trips, things we don't normally do) but she just says "no, go to school".  I realize I'm only on day 2 but all I can think about is what is it going to be like this fall!  How did other mothers deal with this and how long before it past?

    DD2 wasn't as upset as you're describing, but she definitely had preschool envy this year. 

    One thing that helped was that I enrolled her in a toddler class of her own one day a week, and had her carry a backpack, so she felt like she got to be a big kid, too. We're continuing it through the summer, and we may increase it to two or three days this fall. She loves that class, and gets to spend an hour playing with new toys, meeting new kids her age, making a craft, and singing songs. So it wasn't as much of a struggle getting her out of DD1's class, because she knew she was getting to go to toddler class. And I get to work out since it is at our community rec center, so that's a bonus. :) 

    Our preschool teachers were awesome, too. All the kids had a laminated notecard with their name on it, and they had to pick out their names as soon as they came in and answer a question. They made DD2 her own card, so she got to participate in that opening part of the day, and I really appreciated that. She didn't feel so left out, and it gave her something to do while DD1 was getting settled, and then it was pretty easy to move toward the door.

    That is a tough one!  I just kept my DD busy, and after the first week, she was fine.  She looked forward to drop-off and pick-up, but she stopped asking where he was the whole time.
