Carseat

Am I the only one who apparently bought a carseat that doesnt fit in the grocery carts? My carseat is too big to fit on the top......and I have to put him in the cart and there is NO room for the food!!!!!! Thinking of getting a new system.... Very irritating!

Re: Carseat

  • Carseats should never go on the top. It is extremely dangerous to do that and very unsafe for your lo.

  • I thought it was ok to put them up there if your carseat clicked on to the cart which I know some do.

Nope. Either bring a shopping buddy and have one person push the cart and the other push the stroller. Or if that is not an option, wear your baby. Never put them up top, period.

This. After a few shopping trips of not being able to buy much because of her seat being in the cart I just started wearing her. My H tried putting her up in the top thing and wasn't really buying my explanation because "but honey it clicked on there" but realized I wasn't budging and gave up arguing. haha

  • I don't put mine on top, even if it does fit- in fact I've never tried.

The safest thing is just put it in the actual cart, and stack food on the bottom or around. Or wait til someone is home with the baby so you can go grocery shopping alone. Or go with someone else so one can push the stroller and you can push the cart. Or wear the baby.

    Those are the best options!

  • Glad I posted..... think ill be wearing him from now on.

Clicking them onto the top can actually damage the latch mechanism so that it doesn't properly attach to the base and becomes dangerous while you're in the car. Carts become very top heavy and can tip really easily with a seat up there. I'm glad you posted this so that other people who weren't sure don't do it either.

My store has super big carts, so if I have to bring her I usually get one of those and put her seat in there. I have a wrap, but she's hit or miss with it these days, plus I like looking at her and talking to her while I shop. Only downfall....sometimes she shoplifts!! (ie..things slide under her seat and I don't find them until we're out in the parking lot. Or, I don't find them at all, adn just notice I don't have it when I get home.) Embarrassed

  • If you haven't opened it, I would exchange it for a different carrier. The bjorn is bad for their hips, and is not comfortable for you because all the weight is on your shoulders. Look into a Beco, Boba, or Ergo, or some other type of carrier like a ring sling or wrap.

  • llizzyb: do you have a specific recommendation for a good carrier? If so, could you copy and paste the website so I could check it out? I feel so bad now that I know I was putting him in a dangerous situation :((

  • My mom watches LO while we work and she took him to the grocery store last week. There was a lady there that said, "You know his seat can sit on top, right". She replied, "My daughter would kill me". That's right, I told her if she ever had to take him out not to place him on the top, to put him in the basket and that kids have been killed falling off. I also got onto her about putting his infant seat on an upside down highchair. They are NOT safe! I hate to tell her what to do but it's been 23 years since she's had a baby.
