My DH is most worried about me ruining our mattress

He is terrified that my water will break in bed solely because he would be devastated if our mattress were ruined.

The waterproof cover is going on tonight. He will be making the bed himself. LOL!

Really, DH, THAT is the thing that worries you the most?

  • Would water breaking really ruin a mattress?  Wouldn't it just dry after awhile?

  • Forget my H, *I* was the one who was most worried about ruining our mattress, lol. Tempurpedics aren't cheap!

Haha so my husband sells mattresses and yes they are expensive! He hasn't thought of that yet but I'm sure it'll hit him. But we already have a cover on it, always do so we should be good :) We have a nice iso-cool mattress pad that keeps me cool at night, I love it and it definitely doesn't feel liike plastic, plus washable so no biggie if water breaks.

  • Hahaha! I just dug out our waterproof cover for our Tempur Pedic too. I'm bad...even though I sell them for a living and extoll the benefits of the waterproof covers to all my customers, we don't normally use one because I think it disrupts the "feel" of the bed. It definitely doesn't feel the same with the cover on it, but I'm glad to know we won't be ruining the mattress if my water breaks in bed.

And yes...a mattress can ruin if it gets wet. One word: MOLD. Tempur Pedics don't really have this problem, they're open-cell and will dry out eventually, but who wants dried amniotic fluid in their $4000 mattress? Not me!

  • Well crap, I didn't know the mattress could get ruined.  I have a sneaky suspicion I won't be running out for mattress cover anytime soon, either (too damn hot! I'm staying home!).  Maybe I should sleep on some towels? Ugh, always something else to think of!

We just bought a new bed and have a cover that goes on...we bought a plan that if anything gets through the cover in 10 years, we get a new mattress no questions asked haha-- at least we're covered!

Absolutely! We have only had ours for a few months and DH has been asking, "When your water breaks, what's going to come out? WIll it ruin our mattress?" And I'm thinking... shouldn't our waterproof mattress pad --that we were required to purchase for the mattress in case we wanted to return -- be enough???" So now I'm getting nervous too!

I was not about to go running around looking for one, believe me, it's hot here too!! We are getting our new mattress on Thurs so I knew we needed something. I just went online & got one from walmart.com. It's waterproof, was cheap & doesn't sound all crinkly loud at all(DH is a freak about night noises). Ordered it Sun, it came today. I don't plan on using it much past post partum bleeding so i'm glad I found something cheap that will work for what I need!

  • we put the "diaper" as we like to call it on the bed after hearing about a friend whose water broke on her memory foam bed...they headed to the hospital and forgot about the bed til the got home and the mattress stunk. Your water breaking may be odorless at first...but wait 3 days...yipes!  Memory foam ruined.

  • Hahaha!! DH was concerned about it last night! I kept laughing and said he'd be running out after baby is here to get a new mattress then. Even if my water breaks in bed, it won't ruin the bed. We have a mattress cover and I sleep with a million blankets and pillows surrounding me. He imagines it like acid! lol

  • My DH wants a new mattress really badly and I don't think we need one. So if mine breaks, it breaks, and he can go buy a new one. I think there are better things to spend our money on, but if we do have to replace ours at least he'll stop bitching about it.
