When do you give tylenol for a fever?

Mason was sent home from daycare with a fever of 100.6.  I didn't give him tylenol yet (he went right to sleep when we got home), and I want to see if it'll break on its own.  But at what point would you give tylenol?  If it's not down when he gets up, I'll probably give him some as I don't want him to feel icky but I'm curious as to what others do.

Re: When do you give tylenol for a fever?

  • My doctor said to give tylenol with a fever under 102 and ibprofen for over 102. With that said....i dont usually give medicine unless the fever has lasted over 12 hours or if she wont eat or sleep because she is uncomfortable. Hope he feels better soon!

  • If DD has a fever, but is her normal happy self, then I don't give her anything. If she's clearly miserable, I'll give her some Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

  • I will give it only if she is super miserable...I like to let the fever run its course for a bit before I medicate her. And I generally don't treat a fever under 102 unless it persists.

same here! I am the same with myself.. I try to ignore the headache, drink more water and if finally eating doesn't work then I take something. You could also do a cool cloth
