Babies: 6 - 9 Months

If you have the Chicco KeyFit 30 carseat, please come in

LO was 28" long at his last appt. which was 2 months ago at his 6 month checkup.  The carseat manual I believe says it fits infants up to 30 lbs or when the top of their head is 2" from the top of the car seat.  I measured LO in the car seat  a few weeks ago and he was at about 3 1/2 inches so we're definitely getting close and we'll be testing out the next step up carseat that we have but I was wondering how you knew that it was time to upgrade LO?

We also have to pick out a new stroller and so I"ll make as separate post asking about that.  (I'm so bummed, no more Snap & Go stroller!  Loved that thing!)

  • DH and I are having the same issue, except with DS and his weight. He is short for his age, but very chunky. (He's our "chunky monkey") I have this car seat, but have never thought of getting the stroller too. He always loves being in the "man pack" as we call it (the carrier) or being in his car seat.

If we get any good suggestions, I will pass on what I find out. Best of luck!

  • My guy is a lot shorter than yours, he was 25 1/2 inches at his 6 month!  We'll probably switch when he hits 30 inches, but I don't anticipate that being until the fall.  We have a trip in August, so ideally I'd love for him to still be in the infant carrier then for ease of travel.

That's what we were hoping for too, to be able to use the infant carrier and Snap & Go till at least the fall but our long torso baby had other ideas I guess!  ; )  He has been in the high 90s for percentile in height since he was born so I guess we should've expected it.   Oh well, overall, not complaining since it's not a bad problem to have but it would've been nice to get a little more use out of it than just 8 months, LOL!

  • DD is 27inches (at her 9 month appt) and still has room at the top.  We hope to keep her in the infant seat till she hits 30inches (she is 20lbs so has plenty of room).  We no longer carry her in the seat (she doesn't really fall asleep in it anymore).  I am researching convertible car seats and hoping to find a good deal in the next couple months.

DS was 18.1 and 26.5in. at his 6 month. I had him weighed today and he was already 20lb 7oz!!! We just went a little over a month ago!

We already bought the britax boulevard 70 CS. We just transitioned him this past week. He wasn't fond of our chicco infant seat but he likes this a little more. He likes to sit up but when he wants to sleep he isn't happy bc it doesn't recline as much as the infant seat even though we have it on the last position!

  • The height limit on that seat is 30", so we'll make the switch when he gets about there. He's 27" now, so he doesn't have to far to go.

  • We got the manual out this weekend and we definantly need to get a new seat for DD1 because her sister is about to outgrow this one! The manual says between 4-30 lbs, height less than 30 in, and top of head less than 1 inch below top of carrier. DD has a long torso so even though she's not 30 inches long she's almost exactly 1 inch from the top of the carrier. I think it more depends on you LO's proportions and that's why they give different requirements to look at.

  • We switched at 4 months... LO hated being reclined, she wanted to be able to see everything.  I love our convertible car seat ( first year true fit) and our Chicco lightweight stroller.

  • Kennedy is 8months and is super short, but we decided to already get her going in a big girl seat. We also have the chicco stroller and have been taking her out of her carseat and using the stoller directly. We love the chicco, but also have a BOB that is pretty great. As for a convert seat, we went with a Recaro.

  • When DD hits 30 inches, then we will switch to a "big girl" carseat. She was 26.5" at her 6 month appointment. I suspect it will be sometime in the fall that we will make the change. Since my mom and I both have car seat bases, I don't want to change her before it is necessary because I will need to buy two car seats. My mom takes care of my daughter when I am at work.
