I am a FTM and 39 weeks and 2 days pregnant at the moment. At my dr appt today I was 4 cm and 75% effaced, and my doctor raised the possibility of an induction this Thursday (she says I would be very favorable for an induction and an "easy nudge"). I have no medical need to do so, and would ideally like to wait till 40 weeks before considering induction, but my doctor will apparently be out of town all next week and therefore unable to deliver me regardless of if I go into natural labor or were to want an induction next week.
So my question is, should I take that into account or just be fine with whatever doctor I happen to get? I really like her and would like her to be there, but understand that may not be a good enough reason to induce on Thursday...
Re: Induction based on Dr leaving town?
I totally understand how you are feeling on this...My Dr had brought up induction before my due date (yesterday). She said that a lot of women approach her wanting an induction. Everyone is different, I really feel that I should give baby a chance to come naturally. Only because I researched and induction can lead to a higher chance of c-section, not to mention the labor can be more intense earlier on. Everyone's body reacts differently-but I want to avoid c-sec and epi, *if* I can. So for me, I would just rather wait it out.
I am 2 days past my due date and after my ultrasound my doctor called and said she has scheduled my induction date for Thursday the 28th, because she will be out Mon-Wed. Honestly I feel a little better knowing that baby has a week to decide lol.
To answer your question - Totally depends on how you feel about an on - call dr delivering your little one, and if you mind about the induction. I wish you the best hun! Hope that everything goes smoothly!
Hm, this would be a really tough call for me. I think I personally would want an induction, because I really like my doctor and have personal ties to her (her mom is best friends with mine), so she's gone the extra mile for us a few times and I'd like knowing that she was there in case I really needed something. In the end, though, it's about your priorities. I would have a serious talk with her about the statistics of induction considering how far along you are, to get an idea about whether it would be really easy, or if it could start a lot of unnecessary interventions.
I would definitely wait. I'm not a fan of inducing for non-medical reasons. Just because your cervix appears to be ready, it doesn't mean that your LO is ready.
I really liked my OB and thought that was important. But in the end, I only saw her once for 10 minutes during my 60 hour induction for DD#1. By the time I was ready to push and needed a c/s, someone else was on call. Unless you have a solo practice OB who promises to be there for the entire delivery, I wouldn't even consider it.
i would say it depends how much it means to you to have your dr. there.
I would do just about ANYTHING to have my dr for delivery... but chances are still very slim that i will.
she delivered DD and i trust her and she makes me feel comfortable...
but i will be ok without her i guess....
