Clomid success?

Ive been ttc for a little over a year nd just started clomid today, so im in search for success stories to keep me motivated and positive! Please share your stories with me :)

Re: Clomid success?

  • Honestly, Clomid wasn't effective at all for me and I tried three rounds, 3 different doses (50mg, 100 mg, and 150mg).  My OBGYN then referred me to an RE and I got pregnant the first cycle I was seeing him with Femara+trigger shot+TI

ETA:  That doesn't mean that it won't work for you though.  My body just didn't respond to it at all.

  • After close to a year of trying for #2 with no success we got in to see an RE. We did all the prior testing and then moved on to Clomid + Ovidrel + IUI. Cycle #2 was the magic one for us.

Do know that clomid is a really dangerous drug and should only be used in connection with proper monitoring.

    Best of luck!

  • It didn't work for me.. I actually didn't respond to it at all.

But, I have a very close friend who had a very adorable son thanks to Clomid and is now pregnant again, also thanks to Clomid.

  • Thanks for replying, Im really hoping Clomid will work for me. I hate taking medicine, mostly bcuz i have trouble swollowing pills for some reason (silly i know) lol but right now im taking metformin 1000mg er and have been for 6 months and 50mg clomid. Im really hoping i wont have to add anything extra but if the doc says so i wont argue. Ive been trying forever it seems so im willing to try anything.

Is your doctor monitoring you with multiple ultrasounds throughout your cycle?

  • No, He had told me he would do an ultra sound my next cycle. Do they usually always do u/s with this drug? He didnt really make things clear... Actually it looks like he left out alot of factors.. Im really upset now. Idk how he can call himself a specialist nd doesnt even give his patients all the info before prescribing medications.. im really irritated now Angry

Yes, before taking any fertility medications, you should have:

    -Cycle day 3 bloodwork

-an HSG to check your tubes

    -a follicular ultrasound

    -7 days post ovulation bloodwork

Your husband should also have a sperm analysis done.

Then, while on Clomid.. you should have an ultrasound on cycle day 3 to ensure you don't have any cysts or other issues that will interfere with Clomid, and regular monitoring appointments starting around CD10 to watch your lining, follicle growth, etc.

Chances are, he's going to tell you the internet is wrong and he's right.

Find a reproductive endocrinologist and dump this one if that's the case.

I did Clomid with my OB/GYN and wasn't monitored either.  I switched to the RE and started on a new drug, Femara.  The whole OB/GYN experience left a really bad taste in my mouth - I felt like I knew more about fertility than she did.  Given it doesn't matter now, but I wish I'd switched to an RE a lot earlier.

Just remember - an OB is the expert when you are pregnant, but an RE is the expert when it comes to getting pregnant.

And if you are seeing an RE who isn't monitoring, change REs.  That is dangerous.

  • Thank you all for commenting. Im def taking everything you've ladies said into concideration. im going to talk to him about all of these issues and if he doesnt give me answers i will be switching doctors!
  • Clomid works for me.  I don't ovulate on my own at all, but I got pregnant the first time on Clomid with my first pregnancy (50 mg) and this time it took me 3 rounds (50 mg each).  I am not a total success story as my first baby was born very early and did not survive (but a TOTALLY different and unrelated issue, so don't let that scare you!).  I wasn't monitored while taking it which worried me somewhat, but I didn't have any ill effects on it- also no multiples like people say it causes (which it can- but did not for me).  You need to make sure that you do in fact ovulate- I used ovulation kits to make sure I was.  It doesn't work for everyone but it did work for me.  My aunt also has two healthy children as a result of clomid. Best of luck to you.

  • I got my BFP on my second round of 50mg. The first time, we were on vacation and our timing got all messed up.  The second time, I was charting and using OPK's and we were successful :-)  Fingers crossed for your BFP!
  • Hello Wicked Chickk,

I have Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). After a year of no success with ttc, my doctor prescribed Clomid. It worked for me as I conceived during the first cycle. In order for it to be effective, I used ovulation kits. Be aware that it has side effects. I experienced some terrible cramping and moodiness, but it was all worth it.

I wish you success with ttc.

  • After almost 2 years of TTC we tried Clomid- 1 month at 50mg and the second at 75mg. I got pg the second month. I wasn't closely monitored and didn't have all of the bloodwork done before hand, my OB just had me chart to see if we should start with trying to make my cycles consistent- which worked. As far as I know if you've already taken 6 months of Clomid it most likely isn't going to work- I think a PP mentioned that as well.

Clomid thinned out my lining, but without the u/s we would have never known.

For your original Q, I ended up switching from Clomid (3 tries) to Femera.  Femera + trigger + iui did the trick for us.

I do suggest proper monitoring with any fertility drugs.  Many OBs don't/won't do this, so I suggest an RE (which you may have already said you went to, I can't remember).

  • After a year and half trying, we were pregnant after our second cycle on 50mg Clomid. I had blood draws, but not monitoring with ultrasound. Now I've gotten pregnant (fairly easy) twice, since! GL!
  • This time TTC, i got pregnant on the 4th month of Clomid.  FYI - I was not monitored.  The side effects can be wicked all month, especially the irritability.  Good luck to you!

  • I got pregnant on my 5th round of clomid.  The first 4 times I was on 50mg and on the 5th time they decided to try 100 mg and that's the cycle that I got pregnant on.  If the 5th time didn't work they were planning on talking to me about going an alternative route, but I never had to have that conversation so I'm not sure what my alternative route would have been.  I'm just hoping that this baby sticks Smile .

  • Thank you all for replying! You all have given me lots of hope! I called my doc today, but unfortunally wasnt able to talk to him bcuz he was busy but i spoke with the nurse and let her know all my conserns and she assured me that my next cycle i will be monitored by ultra sound and ill be getting blood work my next visit on july 17th She said the reason he isnt this month is bcuz he is waiting for my results from my family doc who has done lotssss of blood work and ultra sounds within the last year. So i guess he is just trying to see what info my doc has on me? Does that sound reasonable or like bs? I mean i can see why he would want to get those results but at the same time i dont really see why it matters? But i am continuing to take the clomid, today is day 2 (cycle day 5) I havent had any side effects, but last night i had VERY vivid dreams, they were almost real! has anyone had this while taking clomid? In my dream i was pregnant! Soo im hoping thats a sign that this month is my month!! lol

Let me guess...you're getting these drugs from your GYN, right?

No, that doesn't sound reasonable. Hope you don't get monster cysts, thinned lining that will never support implantation, no response, or any of the other issues proper monitoring would show. You don't need any of that info from another doctor to monitor properly while on Clomid. He never should have given you the RX. But since you want twinses anyway, I have a feeling you'll continue Clomid no matter what the sensible option is.

  • I'm pregnant with twins from my 4th (monitored) clomid cycle.  Your intuitions are right that the nurse's response was not reasonable.  What's most crucial is getting CURRENT monitoring through b/w and u/s during the month you've taken the clomid.  Previous b/w and u/s will not tell how the clomid is affecting you now.  Good luck!
