As much as I hate maternity clothes...

I've been dreading going shopping for a dress to wear to a wedding next weekend, but I broke down and went today. I started getting seriously upset because I kept finding cute normal dresses, but they either didn't fit or just didn't look right. I hate maternity clothes because I just don't think they are that cute and although i did find some cute dresses online, I can't justify spending $80 on a dress that I might wear once or twice. After several stores, I had some bump bucks to spend at Motherhood so I just walked in and I actually enjoyed my visit to their store! I had two ladies ask me what I was looking for and when I told them what I needed, they picked out several dresses and even had me model them and the ladies helped me pick out which dress! AND I ended up getting two dresses (one for the rehearsal dinner and one for the wedding) that actually flattered me and looked super cute! So here's a shout-out to my neighborhood Motherhood store...thank you for making my shopping for maternity clothes a pleasant one!

Re: As much as I hate maternity clothes...

  • I hear ya, I hate maternity clothes as well but I feel as if the styles have come such a long way since I was pregnant with my first DD over 5 years ago (everything had an ugly tie back string or a bow in the front).  I feel as if now stores like Old Navy and Motherhood have some cute dresses and tops that are form fitting with the ruching on the sides.  Glad you found two dresses for the wedding!!

  • Good for you! I'm glad you found dresses that you love!

I've had nothing but great experiences at Motherhood too. I've been there twice, once looking for a dress for a wedding and another time looking for shorts. The same woman was there both times and she picked out a bunch of items until I found what I was looking for (or more than I was looking for, haha). It makes it so much easier that they're so helpful! I definitely have to second your shout-out to Motherhood :)

P.S. The dresses you got are super cute!

  • I was pleasantly surprised when I went in there too.  I found lots of work clothes and everything was fairly priced.  They didn't have much there that I'd consider frumpy and old.

  • CUTE dresses!!! I've only been to the store once, but I really loved my experience as well! If you're shopping alone, the staff are so helpful!

  • Very cute!  I like them both!

Glad you had a good experience...the nearest Motherhood to me doesn't have the greatest customer service.  Not the worst but nothing to rave over.

  • My local motherhood is right around the corner for me and I actually worked at it for 3 months l after DS was born. It had a different manager at the time and I was pretty much screwed because I went from fulltime hrs to 3 hrs a week two weeks bfore christmas. But when you work there you are taught to keep bringing random clothing items to the customers as they are in the dressing room. I didnt know how obnoxious this can be sometimes when you are the one in the dressing room. Last time I went to my motherhood, I had saw some items in the brochure and online and I loved them, I came to the store and they had never gotten them or the items looked terrible on me cause I am short. However I did end up walking out with this really cute cotton tank dress.

"Hate is baggage. Life's too short to be pissed off all the time. It's just not worth it."

  • I bought several dresses for work. They're awesome. THey' super cute, but I don't know why you would say you'll only wear them once or twice... I have already worn my dresses five times a piece to various events. Plus, I wear them to work. I wouldn't say that good clothing is a bad investment if you need to look decent for work. that said, i've had great fun and success in shopping for maternity clothing. And, lots of my pre-pregnancy stuff still fits and looks cut on me (except for my jeans. I can't wear those.) But all those tshirts? and maxi dresses? they work even better with a bump.
