I saw this thing a year or two ago and swore that I would never touch it. Pour water up my nose? I don't fukking think so! It's bad enough when water gets up there accidentally, why the hell would I do it on purpose?
Well, fast forward to Friday, when after 4 days of a splitting sinus headache, I'm ready to use DH's drill through my cheekbones if it will relieve the pressure.
I took a trip out to the store and bought one. Read the directions carefully and decided to give it a go.
Day 1: ok, insert spout into nostril, tip head and "OH MY GOD, IT BURNS! <COUGH GAG COUGH> I'M DROWNING! I look in the miror and panic because there is water leaking out of my eyes. I've sprung a leak! Oh, wait. Those are just tears, nevermind. Fukc this, it's not worth it, I give up.
After reading the directions again and lookng online I figure I must be doing something wrong. It's described as a soothing feeling, which isn't at all what I experienced. Was the water too hot? Too cold? Too much salt? Who knows. Hmmm, wait a second. My nasal cavity is still burning, but there is a noticable lack of pressure on the right side of my head. Maybe I'll be brave enough to try it again tomorrow.
Day 2: A little less salt, slightly cooler water, I try again. It still feels like I got water up my nose in a swimming pool, but at least I'm not choking and my eyes aren't watering.
Definitely a reduction in sinus pressure by the time I'm through.
Day 3: Same amount of salt, slightly warmer water. I barely feel it at all. I still wouldn't describe it as soothing, but at least it doesn't feel like I'm flushing my nostrils with acid anymore.
I can breathe! After a few minutes, my headache starts to lessen.
Bottom line- if you need to use it, don't be afraid of the neti pot.
Re: So, yeah, um, the neti pot.... (a little long)
I LOVE my neti pot!
Glad you are feeling some ?relief. ?DH and I both used it last week!
I've always wanted to try it, but at the same time I've been a little scared of it. Right now I'm using the saline spray, but if my sinuses get worse, I'll go over to the neti.
