Just curious if anyone has any experience with VBAC at a hospital that bans VBAC deliveries?
I've been looking for information on this because the hospital that is 5 minutes from my door step bans VBAC which means I would have to switch Dr.'s and hospitals if we have another baby. That means I'd be driving 40 minutes for the Dr. and hospital. Unless there is someway to have a hospital change their policy's.. does anyone know where I could find more information on any of this. I've check the Ican website but can't find any clear information on there and we don't have a local Ican group.
ETA: I'm just doing my research trying to look at all my options. We don't plan to have another baby for a while yet ![]()

Re: VBAC @ hospital that Bans them ?
Why is it banned? If they aren't able to do a c/s at a moments notice I really wouldn't want to do a VBAC there anyway... god forbid something goes wrong, can be life or death for mommy or baby!
I used a hopsital for my 1st (same for this one) that is 40 minutes away. It really isn't that far!
I switched hospitals and midwives to have my VBAC.
If a hospital isn't able to handle a VBAC (which they usually claim it is because they aren't equipt to have an emergency c/s) then they shouldn't be equipt to have ANY labor and deliveries. VBAC patients aren't the only ones who have emergencies. If I were having my first child, I wouldn't want to be at a hospital that claims they can't handle emergencies in labor.
I have never heard of a VBAC at a hospital that bans them. The hospital where I delivered my first child claims they do VBACs but only if you deliver prior to 39 weeks (with no induction). As a result, they have a VERY low VBAC rate. I changed hospitals. I know plenty of people who drive 40 minutes to their hospital. I'd suggest you change.

The hospital where I had DD didn't ban VBACs but after she was born (about an hour after we got there), the CEO of the hospital came in and said to the nurses "I thought we were trying to not do VBACs anymore." I was shocked because my Dr is very pro VBAC and had no problems letting me go to 42 weeks (which I did).
That being said, I ended up at the hospital and seeing the Dr because our MW who we saw most of the pregnancy, told me at home that DDs head was still high so we drove the hour to the hospital just to be safe.
The entire time we were at the hospital, all the nurses could talk about was asking me why I would even think about having a HBAC or a VBAC because it is so dangerous and I was ready to snap on them and DH told them "I wouldn't suggest you ask her that again" lol. The entire time I was there, they didn't even call me by my name, I was known my most of the hospital (even those not in L&D) as the VBAC lady and baby. It was so annoying.
I switched to a MW from the OB that delivered DS because his practice doesn't even attempt VBACs and none of the hospitals he delivers that allows them either so it was a no brainer for me. GL with your decision and make sure you really research your options and determine if your provider TRULY is VBAC friendly.
