2nd Trimester

anyone know safety? cough suppressants?

I was up for two hours last night b/c i couldnt stop coughing... to the point I was puking up bile. I went to CVS and asked about the cough suppressant Dextromethophan Hbr (robitussin) and asked the pharm. about it. He hesitated for a really long time, as if he didnt know. And then said it should be ok for a short time. Then he said as long as it wasnt sudafed, it was ok....

wth? I thought sudafed was the only thing I could take? Thats what they told me with dd.. and it was only 14 months ago she was born......

so i don't trust his opinion... anyone know offhand if robitussin cough (particularly dextromethophan Hbr)  is ok? ill probably call later,... but figured i'd give you ladies a shot for now!

  • You can take plain Robitussin, Sudafed, Tylenol (up to 2 extra strength), benadryl...

I am really sick right now...ugh.

  • Yes! This is what my doctor told me to buy from the store when I had a serious cough last week. That or any Tylenol brand medication. It helped me a lot, even with my asthma
  • My dr has not approved robbitussin but HAS approved sudafed. I even questioned her on this later on and she looked it up on her computer for me and verified that yes, sudafed is okay.

She also said that generally she thinks that any medicen a baby could take would be okay for a pregnant person to take. Try thinking of it that way.

  • great, thanks ladies! back to work then.
