Period like cramping and pressure............ WWYD

Also posted on Multiples Board:

Quick back story, I was in triage last Wednesday night because I was feeling pressure and it turns out I was having contractions that were 2-3 min apart. They gave me Vesatril and slowed them to 3 in an hr, i was not dialating and my cervix was still closed and thick, but had dropped a cm from two weeks prior. I followed up with my doctor on Friday and she said if I'm not feeling the actual contraction, they don't worry too much about it, but she gave me a Rx for Vesatril and said if I feel like I may be contracting to take two and go to bed. That if it was really labor the Vesatril will do nothing for me and I wouldn't be able to fall asleep.

Fast forward to today. For about an hr and a half i have been feeling very low pressure and period like cramping. I don't know what to do. my husband seems to think I should wait it out a bit and see if it goes away before calling the doctor. Im getting nervous because now in the back of my mind im constantly wondering if I am having contractions. Its not painful, just annoying like your period would be and strong enough that I cant ignore it.

What would you do ladies? At this point I am at work, so I am sitting down, and drinking my water. I don't really know what else to do at this point.

  • Call the Dr.

It's always better to be on the safe side. Good luck!

  • I would call the doctor to ease your mind. That's going to be better regardless of what we think... it's much better to be safe than sorry.

  • you need to determine if it is a contraction or if its cramps.  a contraction has a starting and an ending point and "peaks" in pain/pressure in the middle.  take a half hour break and see if you can "time" the contractions.

if you can time it- go take the prescription and go home for the day.  if it is less than 5 mins apart also call your dr

  • Absolutely call if you're worried.  It's likely nothing, but at this point, better to be safe than sorry.  Good luck.

  • I called the doctor. The nurse said to drink 64 oz of water in the next 30 min, and then continue to drink more water. :/ She said then if I feel like it is getting worse, or continuing unchanged by 12 to go to the hospital. I may opt to go home and lay down as an option first.

  • I would take the RX and lay down like she told me to, and if I felt the need to call call and tell them and let them know if the meds and rest didn't help you would be going to the hospital.

  • You're 26w with twins and you've alreay been to L&D....you're past the point of "wait and see."

From this point forward if you're getting cramping or feel anything that doesn't feel "right"  it's time to call the doctor.  If it's nothing, it's nothing.  But carrying twins puts you at an increase for pre-term labor and you've already had a scare.  Better to trust your intuition and be safe.  Your doctor can tell you better if what you're describing is normal than a message board - KWIM?

Hope everything is well and keep us posted!

You're at work?  Definitely go home.

When is your doctor pulling you out of work?

  • Call your dr.! If nothing else, it'll help calm your worries and give you a clear direction on what you need to do and where to go from here. Good luck, and I hope all is well!
