Worried about RSV- LO has cough- FTM need advice

My DS came down with a cold on Friday. He has a stuffy nose & chest congestion. He now has a heavy, deep cough. He hasn't been eating great & has been pretty fussy this wknd (but he also got his tongue tie snipped on Friday). He has no fever & is breathing fine other then the cough. I'm paranoid that this is RSV. Should I take him to the emergency room? Or wait for the pedi on Monday? He is 4.5 months actual (2.5 M adjusted) & weighs 12 lb 4 oz.

  • I would page the oncall doctor and ask. If it were me though I would try to keep him out of the er because there will be a lot of sick people around with possibly even worse germs to expose him to.

  • mine is 3 months, almost 2 adjusted. he had a cold, cough, and congestion into the chest. we took him and he had developed bronchiolitis. they tested for the cause but its out of season for rsv and it came back negative. i would def take him to the pedi when you can and maybe call the oncall but i would imagine it could wait a day. he is on antibiotics, steroids and a neubulizer now for the time being
  • Thanks everyone! Just an update. I called the hotline. The dr called back & said that as long as LO doesn't develop a fever or trouble breathing, then he doesn't need to been seen.
