DH's clomid update

DH started clomid in January to try to improve his count. It was 14 per 50 HPF (not sure exactly what that equates to). His testosterone was in the 200's (LOW).

Fast forward to now, his testosterone is in the mid 600's (normal). (It took many increased dosages to get it there). So I was excited about that.... however, his repeat SA this past week is crappier than the last one. I mean significantly worse.

I'm just so devastated again. He's changed his entire lifestyle. He works out 6-7 days/wk and completely changed his diet. I thought for sure we'd see some improvement. I didn't expect a miracle, but was hoping for anything better than what we have.

I think we are still going to go forth with IVF in septemeber (if we even can), but I honestly feel like this is just not going to work. DH doesn't really want to do another cycle, but I feel like I have to in order to move to the next step. (Which for us, is adoption).

I just feel like i'm starting the grieving process all over again. I'm more bitter than ever and just feel so angry that we are not able to have our own children. And i'm once again grieving never being able to be pregnant. I really hope someday this gets easier.

Thanks for listening ladies.

  • My dh did everything and nothing helped.  I got to the point, where i said "go have drinks".   It didn't matter.

Has he had a SCSA?  If not, i would get that test.  If u are already doing ivf w icsi, u really don't need many sperm at all.  We had 30 for our last, and that was over 3 samples DH had to give...

But the SCSA showed that his quaility w decent, so we continued w his sperm instead of DS.  GL!

  • Hugs.  My dh started clomid several weeks ago and we are hoping to see some improvements.  He has bloodwork in a couple weeks, but they can't repeat SA for a couple months.  If we don't see any improvement, we will still move forward with IVF with ICSI again.  Dh is opposed to DS, so I really hope we get our take home babies.  Like you, I'm not ready to grieve again.

  • I am so sorry doll. ((hugs)) I know how hard that is. DH was on a huge coctail of shots and pills. his T went up to normal, but nothing was showing on the SAs. We were heartbroken. Then we got a microscope and started checking ourselves. about a month after our last 0 SA we started seeing sperm at home. We brought him in to do antoher SA and were able to get 500,000 frozen. As he is not producing right now, that frozen sperm is probably what we are going to use on Wednesday.

I know without a doubt that it does not work that way for everyone, but it did help us. Maybe you could do a few more just to make sure. DH only produces 1 week every 3 months, so something to think about.

Again I am so very sorry you are going through this. IF is such a witch.

ETA: exercise is helpful also, but our Uro told us to not overdo it. No more than 3-4 times a week and to keep it to an hour or so. Apparently working out really hard can contribute. GL

Thanks for sharing your experience. We are going to do another SA in a few weeks. We are also going to see a new uro. Hopefully we'll get some more info then.

Good luck on Wed- hope your ER goes great!

I really hope clomid helps your DH. I've read some success with it, so I know it's possible. Good luck!

He hasn't had a SCSA. He did try to have a DNA integrity test done (not sure if that's the same thing or not). The lab said they couldn't run it due to his count being too low.

I do not know how your hubby gave 3 samples in one morning. I can't imagine that pressure! What a trooper!

I love hearing your success story b/c I know our DHs have similar counts. Gives me hope.

. I know, he gave 3 samples for 2 separate Ivfs.  My re used to joke about it poor dh!  They were able to run the scsa w aboiut a count of 10. I would ask about that. It measures frag, so maybe the same or similar test.  Dh's results were normal...but his count and mot are horrible.  My re explained it like looking for a needle in a haystack, and it can take many tries.  At at a certain point, it became a lot about how much we could mentally endure.  Hugs and good luck!!!

  • I'm so sorry LaLe.  :( When you know you're doing everything right, it's impossible not to think that everything should work out.  And it's maddening, frustrating and devastating when it doesn't. We'll be rooting you on in this next cycle.  I completely understand the desire to try again even knowing the odds are not with you.  Makes perfect sense to me.  Wherever life takes you, we'll be here.  Big hugs.
