DD was diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia. Her right hip is 58 degrees and her left is 54 degrees. She has been in a foam brace since Wednesday. It was a rough couple of days at first. She is still not quite used to it and Amy once happy baby is now miserable and cranky all the time. Her night time sleep has gone totally down the toilet. Last night she was up crying EVERY HOUR. I'm sure she finishes a sleep cycle, briefly wakes up and freaks out because she can't move her legs. Please tell me it gets better! I can't bear to hear her cry like this. If your LO had to wear something like this, how bad were thirty hips and how ling were they in the brace/harness for? Did they eventually sleep better at night? I just feel so sad for my poor baby girl.

Re: Anyones LO have hip dysplasia?
My DS was diagnosed with moderate hip dysplasia in the hospital during his newborn exam. We double diapered for the first 2 weeks & then he was put in a Pavlik harness for 14 weeks. He had to wear the harness for 23 hours a day the first 6 weeks, 12-16 hours the next 4 weeks & 12 hours the last 4 weeks. I am not sure what degrees his hips were when we first started because they didn't do an ultrasound until he was in the harness for 2 weeks. We had multiple ultrasounds but after 10 weeks in his harness his left hip was around 55 degrees & his right hip was normal (his left was way worse than his right).
My DS had a really hard time with it the first week he had to wear it
It was really hard to see him in it. I was a mess. It took a while for me to get used to handling him in it. Everything was different - from holding him, feeding him, to putting him in the carseat..it was like starting all over (I'm a FTM).
We started off with him sleeping in a rock n play but once he started wearing the harness he hated it!!! The only way we could get him to sleep was him sleeping on our stomachs. After about 3 weeks of that we talked to the surgeon & decided to have him sleep on his belly. The surgeon said his hips were more of a risk to him them SIDS. To calm my nerves with him sleeping on his belly, we got an Angel Care monitor. Once we started putting him on his belly he started sleeping better.
What kind of brace is your DD in? It does get easier and they do get used to have their legs restricted!!! My DS did great once he got used to it! Good Luck!
My DS was diagnosed with mild hip dysplasia at his newborn check. It was a very mild case and he also had to wear the pavlik harness 24/7 for 6 weeks, then just at night and naps. He is now 5 months and harness free.
It will get better! He had a rough time sleeping in the beginning, but we had a pack n play that had a newborn napper on the top. The way it was shaped, it supported his legs while they were in the harness. We kept him in this until he was out of the harness.
The first week was definitely the hardest, between sleeping, dressing, and changing diapers! Just know it will get better. If you need anything else (questions, etc.) send me a PM. I would be happy to help
