Babies: 3 - 6 Months

What is this all about?

DS is still not STTN but whatever, he'll do it when he's ready I guess. Within the last week, he has been crying or screaming in his sleep at night. He did it a couple of times last night after I put him in bed for the evening. He never opened his eyes, even when I picked him up. I wondered if he was overly tired because he didn't nap much yesterday; I thought maybe he was having trouble going into a deeper sleep. He has also cried when he's been napping in his swing. Sometimes, replacing the pacifier works, other times nursing him seems to help. He's not sick and is perfectly happy during the day. I've wondered if maybe he is teething because he's drooling like crazy and sticks everything in his mouth and chews on it, though I can't see any teeth emerging or even feel any bulging in his gums. I'm not sure what to make of this crying/screaming. I hope it's just a phase....

Re: What is this all about?

  • one of our twins did this a few weeks ago.  it seems to have gotten better for the most part - or it happens fewer times a night, so for us it was a phase!  i have no idea what caused it! they are 5 months old as well.

My lo does this. She'll just all of a sudden have a burst of cry like she is in pain. She has silent reflux so I'm thinking it may be from that. And she doesn't sttn either. She is 4 months on Thursday. She sleeps OK but sometimes she'll do the crying on and off and when it gets too much where she isn't even getting sound sleep I'll wake her up. I just switched her to Similac Alimentum too see if her reflux goes away if caused by a suspected mspi.

  • DD2 did this for a few days.  It was really weird, she would just start crying really hard, we'd go in, pick her up and comfort her (all while she was sleeping), she would calm down and be fine.  I said to H it seems like she's having nightmares, although I have no idea if they even have them at this age.  The girls do have reflux, but this was just something that happened for a few days and then stopped.
