1st Trimester

My son will be 18-19 months old at due date!

I just found out that I'm pregnant with my second baby! Which is such exciting news, but my son will only be a little over 18 months old at my due date.  I don't know how I'm going to get it through his head that he's going to be a brother, and I'm so scared for the craziness that I imagine with two kids, both under 2!

Anybody else out there in this situation?!

  • A good friend of mine went through this a few months back. Her daughter was seven months old when she found it she was expecting again. Honestly, she is doing great and says all the time "I just do it."  You will be fine:)

  • Our second was planned close, but our DD will be 15-16 months when the next LO is born.

There's no going back now and when the time comes you'll just do it because you have no other choice.  Hopefully it'll be fun when it's not crazy stressful.  That's what I keep telling myself anyway.

    Congrats!

  • My girls are 18 months apart. It is only getting harder now - one is 2 1/2 and the other is 15 months. In the beginning you are just tired for obvious reasons. Little by little, though, your DS will be able to help you out: ie getting things.

    Good Luck and Congrats!

  • Based on observations, you adapt to your environment. I'm sure there will be times when you feel everything is chaos, but you'll learn to manage it and it'll become the norm. Just enjoy having two little ones so close in age!

  • 4u6 here.  You adapt and it's as if life was always this crazy.

My first two were 17 months apart and I'm not going to lie - it was slightly hellish for the first few months, but now they are best friends and I am so glad they have each other.

    Congratulations.

  • You can do it!  Just take things one day at a time and make sure to include big brother in baby care.  They LOVE to help and feel important.  Someone told me when I first started having kids that, "The infant won't remember.  If he/she is not crying, PUT THEM DOWN and give your attention to your older kids."  Infants just want to be near you anyway.  Prop them next to you while you read/play with your firstborn.  Before you know it, your kiddos will be playing with each other (and you'll actually get a break from being the only playmate!)!  You'll do great!  Good luck!
