Poll: Pulled over for speeding?

I was on my way back from my dads tonight after spending the day with my niece. Cruise control on 75 and less than a 1/4 of a mile from my exit, a cop came from the opposite direction, turned around and came after me. I was doing 10 over! By the time he was behind me, I was getting off the off ramp. It's one of those stupid ones thats a big hairpin turn (I believe is what it's called). Anyway, I finally pulled over and apologized for taking so long. Explained I was on my way back from visiting my dad and no I do not have any priors. He took my license and registration (not my insurance?). He ended up coming back having given me a verbal warning to slow down.

I realize I should be grateful for this but in a way I am almost annoyed. Damn right you're giving me a warning. What kind of assbag gives someone with no priors a ticket for doing 10 over on the interstate?!

Note: I have been pulled over about 3 times before. Once b/c the cop was looking for someone (not me), and twice for speeding. I will note that these pull overs only got me verbal warnings, the first when I was 20 and the second when I was 22. I'm 24 now. Yes, maybe I should slow down, but I'm starting to wonder if I'm just lucky or if it takes a real screw up to actually get a ticket.

I have a bit of a lead foot, and to the surprise of my family, I have never been pulled over. DH has been pulled over a few times (he's got a loud, Mustang Cobra, so he definitely sticks out) and got a ticket twice. They sucked and he fought them and got them lowered (and no points on insurance).

I would gladly take the warning! I know that if you are usually just honest and don't make a fuss they won't bother writing you a ticket.

Wish that would've been the case when DH got his tickets! I was with him for one, and he didn't fight the cop or anything and the jerk still ticketed him. He fought it in court though.

In the times that I have been pulled over, I don't even bother to argue with them. It seems to work for me.

One time I was late for work, another time I had gone all over town at 11:00 at night looking for shredded cheese (for nachos and chili) and was trying to avoid Walmart. I was thinking I should just go home before I get in trouble and sure enough, got pulled over for speeding. Tonight I was just trying to hurry home b/c I was effing tired and had been on the interstate for a half hour.

LOL I guess it depends though on where you live. I know with the POLICE that is how it is...with Highway Patrol it's different...they have quotas to fill even though they say they don't. I know here CHP is "supposed" to write at least 10 tickets a day.

Well let see I have had them ALL! Even the not pull over and take off!!! haha long story! But I have been pulled over for doing 130mph mmmm yup that was fun I thought I was going to get pulled out of the car..the cop was sreaming at me hehe but he only gave me a ticket for 85 in a 65 but the ticket was 300 bucks thank god I was in a different state I would of been Fvcked

Speeding in a school zone, passing a school bus, 4 verbals, 2 tickets, and one or two others...

I'm sorry you got pulled over. But you were speeding so it isn't like the cop was out of line. And also, most everybody has a first ticket, so at somepoint we each get ticketed without having any "priors." Be grateful that you can get away with going 10 over. Here in Washington State the cops will pull you over for going 2 or 3 over . . . going 10 over is just begging to be ticketed here.

I got stopped for going 5 over. Was polite, didn't argue, still got a ticket. Cost me almost $200, and that's -with- taking the damn defensive driving class. That was a bigger deterent than the speeding fine. That was 8 hours of my life I could have spent cleaning the toilet with a toothbrush and had a better time.

LOL! Funny you say this because I once got out of a ticket because (and I didn't realize this til after the cop let me go) I accidentally flashed the cop. My skirt I was wearing had ridden up and the cop got to see the girl bits...eek. It was embarassing but at least I didn't get arrested (I was doing 40 in a 20). After that I made a real point of being more cautious with my speeding.

If you were speeding, priors or not, you are lucky he let you off with just a warning. Cops that give you a warning are really going above and beyond to be nice guys. He oculd have just written you the ticket and called it a day.

I've gotten 3 speeding tickets in my life, and I didn't complain about any of them because I deserved them. The speed limit was 65, and I was certainly going faster than that, it doesn't matter if it was only 10 mph over, or 30.
