2nd Trimester

ideas for a newborn halloween?

i know it's like, 3 months away. but since lil girl here is kicking me awake, i sat up and thought about it. my DD will be born early oct and she'll only be 2-3 weeks old by halloween, but since it's technically her first actual "holiday", i wanted to do at least a little something (even though she probably won't remember it or care for that matter, just humor me). any advice on something little and cute i can do with a newborn? obviously, she can't go trick or treating, let alone go out so it's limiting haha. thanks!

Re: ideas for a newborn halloween?

  • I plan on buying a costume and taking him and DS#1 to get their photo taken and at the same time the birth announcements done - it would be good timing, I get at least one picture of the two in their costumes and a few newborn pics =) and send it out to family and call it a day =)

  • I would say just take some cute themed pictures. You would probably be better off with a festive onesie or outfit rather than a costume.
  • I dressed DD as a pea in the pod her first year.  She was 3 weeks old.  Check out costumeexpress.com.  They have quite a bit of newborn costumes and you can usually find the same ones at party city.

I was thinking about this months ago! Smile DH laughed at me but loved by idea... A glow worm. I'm so excited I can't wait!

My sister dressed her LO as a lobster, similar to something to this for his 1st Halloween. He was SO stinking cute!!

  • I remember seeing some really cute/funny newborn sleepers - like a cow print pj that says "udderly adorable" and comes with a little hat with cow horns etc.

There were a bunch at the Carter's store last year... I can't remember the others, but they were all pretty cute! :)

  • DD is set that she be a princess and her baby brother who will be about 4-5 weeks old be a dragon lol so we will see. I think it would be cute, but then again you never know what the temperature will be like.

I'm due on Oct 3, and I just bought this costume for LO! I got it at a garage sale, and there was also a little giraffe costume, so I got that too, since they were only $1! I know it's silly, but I want to take pictures, and I'm going to take him "trick or treating" to his grandparents and aunts/uncles houses, not for candy, but just to show him off!

  • Just keep in mind that even newborn size costumes may be way too large if you have a small-ish baby. DD was born the beginning of August and I was still only able to find one costume that was small enough for her. I suggest going for the outfits that are more like pajamas or sleep sacks, as they seem to fit a little better on the smaller ones.

  • Coming from someone born on Halloween, I love looking back at pictures of first costumes my parents dressed me up in.  I have a newspaper clipping of all the Halloween babies dressed up as pumpkins, courtesy of the hospital.

For my first birthday, my parents took adult things around the house...large sunglasses, a sheer scarf, metal shiny bracelets and a long plastic necklace.

Not sure if baby costumes were around in 1974, but I love them and thought it was hilarious!

My first Christmas, my parents wrapped me in Christmas paper and took a picture of me placed among the other gifts.  Wink

  • DS was 3 weeks old and we got a newborn size bear costume and took him to a pumkin patch and took pics with him and the pumpkins. On halloween we took him to a celebration at our church.

  • We have a little black onesie that has the ribcage/skeleton on the front, and it glows in the dark.  I think it's super cute, and will probably just put him in that, since it's easy and we already have it.

Check out etsy for crochet dragon hats. They seem to be a pretty popular item for newborn pics. My DD loves My Little Pony's so my idea was to have her go as a pony and her baby brother go as Spike the baby dragon.

  • Oooo yay! No one has suggested what I'm doing!

I'm having a boy, and my name for him (my husband is still coming around. I think in the end he will say okay...:P) is Joseph, nickname Joey.

I plan on getting a Moby, hopefully in the cream or brown color. I was thinking of getting a crocheted hat of a kangaroo for him and just some kind of ears like a kangaroo for me. I'd wear him and we'd be a kangaroo and joey (a play on his name). Hopefully this works out, because I think it would be adorable.
