S/O when DO you start discipline? What age?

As you can tell in my siggy, Jack is only 15 month. BUT he is already starting to throw fits. If you take something away from him he will freak the fvckk out! He will sit there and cry. If i don't pick him up he will keep going. So I pick him up. AND he get's incredibly frustrated when he is doing something and it's not going his way. 

I read in the last thread about Magic 123 but it says from 2 years on...

Is Jack to young for discipline???

    To me, discipline just means to teach a lesson (and not in the "I'm going to teach you a lesson" sort of way).  It doesn't necessarily mean TOs or spankings.  Redirection and ignoring behavior you don't like are good ways to discipline young toddlers, IMO.  You can even start this before they turn 1 y/o if they're engaging in that behavior.  And, hugging an upset baby is totally ok IMO.  After awhile, they don't really remember why they were upset, they're just upset.  So hug them, calm them down and then talk about what happened.  If they are frustrated, I've found that giving them the words to express themselves helps.  It takes a long time, but better to build that foundation now so that when it is age appropriate, they can say "I'm mad" instead of throwing a fit.

    We tell C what is going on and why when he throws a fit. This includes telling him why he is not getting his way (we need to go to the store, you have to wear shoes before going in the back yard, etc). If he continues, the biitch in me comes out and asks him how his hissy fit is working for him and if he has gotten his way yet. No? Probably because its not going to, and he needs to find something else to work on. He normally does, or we compromise. (You can walk to the car like a big boy, lets put on your shoes and mommy will come play in the yard too, etc).

    Most formal discipline philosophies begin about two.  Prior to that it's redirection and ignoring-unfortunately.
