Some docs will;some won't. Some of us just don't like the idea. Plus, my docs have told me that success rates are higher with spontaneous labor. I had a failed induction, so the whole process bothers me.

It depends on the doctor. Some will not induce at all, some will use non pitocin methods (i.e. foley bulb), some will use low doses of pit. I believe induction methods using cervix ripening drugs can increase risk of rupture as well as high doses of pit.

This is true. I was induced for my VBAC. We attempted and failed a foley bulb induction and mine was done with low-dose pitocin. It's cervadil and high dose pit that is not good for you. It's actually not good for you even if you aren't a VBAC. But many doctors just don't want to do it. I personally think it is because many of them just aren't that into VBACs in the first place. But I was induced at 41 weeks and it was successful.
I was scheduled for an induction, but my m/w swept my membranes the day before and I ended up delivering my DD that night (at the time I was supposed to be arriving for my induction!).
We were doing an AROM (artifical rupture of membranes) with a very very very low dose of pit. When I went into spontaneous labor on my own, when I arrived at the hospital, my m/w still did an AROM and my labor was about 4 hours, start to finish. This was my 2nd vbac.
My midwives will induce me if I get to 41w6d, in the hospital, with Foley bulb (if favorable) and low dose pitocin. I think it just depends on the provider.

I was told this both with DS and this LO (different providers and hospitals for each). Gentle inductions are safe for VBACs. High dose Pitocin and/or cervical ripening agents (Cervadil, Cytotec) are not safe for VBACs because they significantly increase the risk for uterine rupture (even in non-VBAC labors).

Re: Newbie Question: Why can't you induce for a VBAC?
Many but not all doctors have this rule. Additionally there are non pit methods that can be used. AROM, foley bulb...
