May 2012 Moms

X-posted on 0-3 month board:

Hi ladies,

I'm technically a June mom since DD was born on 6/2, but I hope you will have me since she is closer to the May babies than the June ones :)

So this might be a really silly FTM question, but I'm pretty sure that DD has undergone/is undergoing her 2 week growth spurt - she's eating more, sleeping less, and is somewhat fussy.

However, I haven't noticed any changes in her. Granted, I don't have a good way of weighing her, and it's possible that I'm just so used to seeing her that I don't see the growth, but I was wondering if anyone else out there went through a growth spurt without any obviously noticeable changes? I know that she's still really young, so it's not like she'll gain a ton of new behaviors all of a sudden, but should I be expecting any behavioral changes at all at this point?

  • Sounds like a growth spurt to me!  I don't notice a lot of changes because I am with him everyday all day.  Growth spurts happen even when you can't notice changes right away.

This. The only way I can tell is that she wants to eat ALL THE TIME! After the first spurt I took her back to the pedi and had to pick my jaw up off the floor when she had gained 1.5 lbs in 2 weeks!

That's basically what I've been dealing with since 2 nights ago... Just hoping there'll be a light at the end of that tunnel soon...

  • Agreed - its hard to see changes when you are with them every day though you might be able to tell by clothes.  Or I'd you are a control freak like me, you could purchase or rent a baby scale and weigh the baby daily.  DS gained 1 lb and 2 ounces in just over a week.

That and all of his NB onesies barely snap anymore. Good thing I bought most of his clothes in 0-3mos!!

  • You might be surprised when baby gets on the scale next. And, don't worry, there are going to be days when you wake up and really notice a change. There was even one day that I swear little one changed from morning to the evening.

  • You can usually pop in at the peds office and ask for a weight check... It's amazing how much they nurse when going through a spurt :)
