IVF girls: What grade were your embryos?

I'm just curious to see what type of embryos result in a pregnancy. If you got pregnant via IVF, how many times did you try and what grading did your embryo(s) have? Thanks!

Ours weren't given a grade because they only do that for day 5 embies, but we transferred 2 "unbelievable" 8+ cell embies on day 3 and are pg with 1.

I think that these questions are why my embryologist would not give our embryos grades at our transfer. Because you can't always judge how they will do by just looking at them. She just said to us on our day 3 transfer which one she thought was the best looking one and why, in non-quantitative terms-- it is not growing too fast or two slow, it is beginning to compact, and doesn't have that much fragmentation. I still don't think it was all the pretty looking in the photo they gave us compared to some I have seen of other people's, but it stuck. So you just never know.  I know people who have had slow poke morulas on day 5 turn into healthy babies, too.

I tried IVF once and transferred one 3d compacting 10ish cell embryo.

    I can't remember exactlly but....

IVF 1: all arressted but 2 and they were very poor grade

IVF 2: all arressted but 3 and they were a hair better then IVF 1

IVF 3: we changed and did a 3 day instead of 5dt; Grades are in my siggy and I'm pg with twins.

After loads of my own research I found that if there are quality issues before day 3 then that's sperm, if there are quality issues after day 3 that's egg issues. If it's egg issues then you should consider 3dt. I begged and begged for this from my RE for IVF3, basically forcing her hand the night before. Everything always looked stellar for us for the first 2-3 days, then wham they'd all arrest and or be really poor quality. If we ever go back for a 3rd baby I will only entertain a 3dt of 1high quality embryo. Hope this helps

IVF #1: 3dt so grades vary wildly. We transferred 3:

    1 x 7 cell grade B. 1 x 7 cell grade C and fragmented. 1x 5 cell grade C and fragmented

We are just guessing that the 7 cell grade B is the one that made - the other two were highly criticized by our embryologist.

To be honest, I don't think there's a "type" of embryo that results in a pregnancy, while there are other "types" that do not.  I think it's a bad idea to over-analyze embryo grades.  It can psyche you out unnecessarily.

That said, I did spend massive amounts of time over-analyzing embryo grades over the course of 3 fresh IVF cycles, so here are my stats:

At my clinic 1 = early blast and 5 = expanded blast; A = highest grade and D = lowest grade.  I always did 5-day transfers.

IVF #1: transferred (1) 2BB- blast and (1) 1BC blast.  Nothing to freeze.  Did not get pregnant.

IVF #2: transferred (2) 2CC blasts and (1) OK-looking morula.  Nothing to freeze.  Did not get pregnant.

IVF#3: transferred (1) 1BB blast, (1) 1BC blast and (1) 1CC blast.  The 1BC blast had been a 1CD blast an hour before the transfer.  We wound up with (1) embryo to freeze on day 6 (a 6BB), and on day 5 that embryo had been a 1CD blast.  I am pregnant with one baby.  Smile

     Hope that helps!

    We only did IVF once.

We got 5 eggs but only one made it to a 3 day transfer. That one was a grade B, 4 cell, fair. I am now pregnant with that one egg :-)

As far as I know the grading is only based on the "appearance" of the embryos. Our clinic didn't really give us a grade but our Dr. said it was a "very good looking blastocyst" on day 5.  On day 3 we still had 10 growing so that was why they pushed us out to day 5.

This was our first IVF, we transferred one on day 5 and are pregnant with one baby.

When I was going crazy researching stuff I found this website quite helpful:

    https://www.advancedfertility.com/blastocystimages.htm

There is a lot of info on both day 3 and day 5 embryo grading, just keep in mind your clinic might not use the same system this clinic does.

    Good Luck!!

We had 1 embryo on day 3 that was graded a 2.  Our clinic grades day 3 transfers on a 1-5 scale 1 being the highest.

As other have said you have to take the embryo grading with a grain of salt because so many people have success with so many different grades.  Also keep in mind it can be hard to distinguish what we say and compare it to what your clinic grades because each clinic grads their embryo's differently.
