What is the earliest you would find out sex?

With DS I found out the sex at 18weeks. This time we have a schedule conflict when I will be 17, 18, and 19 weeks so I could wait till 20 weeks but that seems so long to wait. Do you think 16 weeks 5days would be too soon? I really want to avoid finding out too early and having it not be accurate (this happened to my cousin and it was awful). So what is too early?

We could potentially find out at our next appointment which would be 16 weeks, so as long as baby cooperates, we may get to know!

Are you talking about an elective scan or the anatomy scan? The anatomy scan I believe needs to be done closer to twenty weeks (obviously because the goal is to visualize the organs well). I think an elective u/s can predict the sex starting at 16 weeks but the further along you are, the more accurate. Personally, I would wait until 20 weeks.

I don't understand the whole "I can't wait an extra week!" mentality at all.

I would wait until 20 weeks because it's most definitely more accurate. And, as PP said, the anatomy scan would not be done that early at any dr office.

I agree with this - except the last line I'm going at 18 weeks again like I did with DS. My doc won't let me do the A/S any sooner, and I don't want to pay for an extra scan myself. If it's an elective though, I would go at 16-5. Then maybe they can confirm at your A/S later.

Ok I wasn't sure how early they did the a/s. Like I said I had mine with DS at 18weeks wasn't sure if that was the soonest or not.

Also i don't have the mentality of not being able to wait another week. We are also planning a sex reveal party with our closest family and friends and I am finding it difficult to plan it around everyone's busy summer schedules. So if I can do it earlier we can avoid conflicts of other things going on. That is all.

I am having an u/s done at 16 weeks at my doctors office and I hope they can tell me then. My big u/s is a level 2 at the hospital at 19 weeks so if not then I will find out or be able to confirm then!

With DS, we had our A/S at 18 1/2 weeks, this time I have to wait until 20-22 weeks and since I won't be scheduling it until after my 16 week appt, who know when I'll be able to get an appt. I don't want to wait until mid August, so we're having an elective at 16w 4d, it'll only be $85 and I'm so excited. July 14th can't come soon enough!

Assuming you're talking about within the A/S, I wouldn't go earlier than 18 weeks. Mine is 20 weeks, fwiw.

I found out with DS at a 15 wk emergency ultrasound because he was waving "it" around and wasn't letting us look at anything else. We had it confirmed at his A/S. This time we are just going to wait for the A/S which will be at 20 wks.

I found out at 16 weeks with DD, but a friend of mine found out at 13 weeks with her DD, so IDK I guess it depends on your doctor.

I was just wondering the same thing! I don't get to have my a/s until 22 weeks, and we found out with DS at 18 weeks. This is our last baby and I just want to know! I'm considering going earlier, but I really don't want them to be wrong.

I would go at 16 weeks, but that's just me. Especially if you have a party you're trying to plan.

My favorite place near us that does early sex u/s with guaranteed results, starts guaranteeing their results at 16 weeks. Based on what we decide to do at my next appt (regarding MFM and their u/s schedule) I'll schedule my appt there for then.
