SUPER swollen feet! Ice? Heat?

The last 2 days my feet have ballooned! My ankles and hands are swollen too, but my feet are so swollen I cannot hardly walk because my feet dont bend.

At my appt on Wed (the day before I got so swollen) my urine was fine... My BP has been fine, so I dont know whether or not to be worried, but i am VERY uncomfortable.

Other than putting them up (which they have been all day) is there anything I can do? Ice them, put heating pad on them?

?

Re: SUPER swollen feet! Ice? Heat?

  • I think this is something you should call about.  They ask me everytime I go to the doc or L&D.

They could probably tell you how to best handle it.  My cankle didn't set in til AFTER ds was born.  I don't have it w/ this pregnancy yet.....we'll see after she's born.

  • Some swelling is normal but if it happened suddenly you NEED to call your doc.

    .
  • You need to go to the dr.
  • It's your hands being swollen that bothers me. That isn't as common as the feet, I would suggest calling.

If you don't want to call immediately than elevate your feet(make sure they are higher than your heart), drink lots of water, and I have no idea whether to use hot or cold. I do know that the swelling could take hours to go down.

if you have a headache, blurred vision(or wierd flashes of lightning vision), and a puffy face...go to the hospital. In fact, go if you get one of these symptoms.

  • I feel like I shouldnt call my doctor because my BP is fine, and I had no protein in my urine as of Wed...

Could this be anything with both of those things being ok? ?

  • I had really swollen feet too and some one told me to freeze a water bottle and then roll your foot up an down on it. That and putting them up really seemed to help me!  Oh and my nurse told me to wear tennis shoes, she said that you need good support and that flip flops or sandals will just make them balloon up more.

If it doesn't go away I def call the doctor!

  • Cold is better I believe. ?Also, if you can elevate and still lay on your left side this is best according to my doc. It's kind of awkward but better for the blood flow.?
  • I am in the same boat as you. My feet are also just as swollen and my hands are too.

Unfortunately I haven't found any remedies. The only thing that helps a tiny bit is keeping my feet elevated nonstop (if I get up for more than 10 minutes they will balloon again) and drink a lot of water.

I called a nurse tonight and she told me not to worry as long as my BP is good (which it is).

You should definitely watch out for the other symptoms though.

  • I had horrible swollen feet and eventually swollen ankles and calves from about 28 weeks on.  My doctor said to keep them elevated, drink lots of water and to use ice on them.  Each night, the swelling would go down but the minute I got up in the morning they would start swelling again.  My doctor wasn't concerned with it because my BP was fine and I didn't have any other symptoms of Pre-Eclampsia.  My hands were pretty swollen towards the end of my pregnancy too.  Be prepared that it could take a while for the swelling to go down even after delivery.  In fact the swelling was worse after the delivery (nurses said it was due to all the fluids from the IV) and took about 2 weeks after delivery to finally go back to normal.

  • Ditto the last poster... I have had horrible swelling in my hands and ankles, especially if I walk too much that day. Ice, drink more water, and elevation are what help me. Sometimes it takes about an hour of elevation to help the sore/tight feeling subside. My BP has been fine, too... so it's just something I've been told to live with until baby gets here. It really sucks though... hope you find some relief!!
