Hello!
I am a working mom on summer break from teaching, but looking for a new teaching job in my home state. I have taught for the past 4 years in my current district and have been blessed to get 3 interviews for teaching positions next week in my home state. I haven't interviewed in 4 years and I'm nervous. Has anyone interviewed for a teaching position lately who can share insight into the questions they asked? I appreciate any help you can give!
Re: Teacher Position Interview Help
Are you looking for questions for YOU to ask or what the district might ask?
If you want to talk about district - my district actually uses a book with questions about how you approach certain situations (like a student upset, parent issues, etc.). They've been using it for at least 8 years...probably much longer.
Topics brought up commonly in teacher interviews from my experience/knowledge:
- Instructional strategies
- Utilizing data
- Collaboration
- Classroom management
- Technology in the classroom
- Professional development you have attended
- What would make you an asset to that particular school?
This is a good list. I've interviewed a few times in the past few months. I'd add:
-Working with diverse populations-ELL, socio-economic diversity
-Differentiation
This is good advice, too. I would look at the school and district websites. Read classroom blogs and find out what programs they use. Be prepared to tell what you know about specific programs they use.
I've been on teacher hiring committees many times before and it's always favorable to come to an interview knowing about that specific school, it's curricuum and behavioral procedures.
