Telling Parents on Father's Day?

Did anyone tell their parents right away? I am only 4 weeks, but since it's Father's Day, I would love to tell my parents and sister today. I keep telling myself that if something goes wrong, I would probably tell them, but I have that feeling that I shouldn't yet!  When are/did you tell your parents?

Re: Telling Parents on Father's Day?

  • We are going to wait a few more weeks until we have a few good ultrasounds.  But I've had 2 miscarriages so I am probably overly cautious now.  I don't want them to get excited until we are more confident that this is going to work out.  I'm only 4w2d, and I'm still waiting for my betas.  We won't have an u/s until 6w, and I will probably wait until 8+ to tell them.  For the rest (coworkers, friends etc) we won't tell anyone until 16 weeks.

  • I think we're going to tell our parents when we go visit them next week.  We'll be home for my bro's wedding (I'm going home Friday, DH that following Wed) so on Wed when he gets home I think we'll tell them. It will be a Father's day/early birthday surprise for my dad :)

  • I think it all depends on what you are comfortable with them knowing. Our parents and siblings knew we were going through IVF so the day I had my first beta they were all asking so we had to tell. If something goes wrong I would need their support so Im fine with them knowing early.

It sure is exciting to tell your family whenever you decide :)

  • We have already told my parents, my cousin, boss, and 1 close friend. We have not told DH's parents yet.  We will probably tell them in the next few weeks. We are very cautious and will not be telling anyone else till at least September, so like 18 weeks.

  • With DS we told immediate family right away because if anything went wrong we would need their support. We are going to be telling them today as well, and I will be 4 weeks tomorrow. It was hard enough for me to even keep TTC a secret, so this would be impossible. You have to do what you feel comfortable with!
  • We're waiting until we see my ILs in a few weeks. Last time we told everyone right away.

  • Since I just found out, I decided to use today to tell my husband.  I bought him a father-to-be card and a book for the baby (baby's first book!!).  I was worried that he was going to suspect it so yesterday I told him that I started my period.  His first response was "so you didn't start your period?"  He has been dying to tell the world ever since.  I am excited to tell too but I have decided not to tell anyone else until next weekend when I see my family for my niece's birthday.  He however did call both of his parents and told them the news.  I also had to make him promise not to post it on facebook yet because we have mutual friends including my sister and my brother.  It makes me happy to see him so excited!

  • We told my parents this weekend.  I got my dad a "#1 Grandpa" card.  My dad didn't see anything wrong at first but my mom got it right away :)
