Rash after one year shots...

Ok so I spoke too soon!  After Noah's MMR shot last week, he had a high fever and runny nose.  We even had to go to the ER.  The ped called us two days ago and said that they may have seen a spot on his lung and so it could be pneumonia.  I posted earlier that he is feeling better and is now on antibotics!  Well, today I noticed he now has a terrible rash on his back and chest.  Did anyone else's little one get a rash after there MMR shots?  When did it show up and how long did it last?  I took pics and am going to take him in tomorrow to have it looked at.  In addition to worrying about him, being pregnant, I also always worry about if it could be something else that I could contract.

Re: Rash after one year shots...

  • No rash yet - LO got them a week ago today.  This is from my Great Expectations book on the possible side effects of the MMR shot:

Fever is the most common side effect, occuring in about 5-15% of vaccine recipients, and about 5% of recipients develop a mild rash 7-140 days after the shot.

I would think that's all it is, but if you are still worried, call pedi and ask.  Good luck.

  • Zoey developed a rash on her upper thighs and stomach and back about a week or so after her shots. I was a little worried at first, but I've read about a ton of other kids getting a rash after the shots, so I feel a bit better. She also got a small rash on her inner arm around the site where they drew her blood. I hope your LO is feeling better soon!

  • Is he on amox by any chance? Look up amoxicillin on wiki, there is a non-allergic rash that is very striking and starts on the trunk.
