Travel high chairs

Does anyone have experience with travel high chairs?  Recommendations on brand, did you ever feel like it was unsafe, and once you got it, did you really use it or did it stay in the box?  Thanks!

Re: Travel high chairs

  • I just bought (and used) the Fisher Price Healthy Care portable high chair.  Its essentially a booster seat with a removable back & tray.  We've only used it on 1 road trip to visit relatives for the weekend, but it strapped very securely to the chair, was easy to get dd in & out of, and its all hard plastic so easy to clean.  I like that it has a removable back & tray, as we'll use it later on as a booster seat at home when she's done with the high chair.  It folds up fairly compact too, and you can hang it off your shoulder like a purse strap so its pretty portable.  So far, it was a good buy!  We plan to take it on our week long beach vacation later this summer.  Also will be handy to bring to local friends' homes when they invite us (all) over for lunch/dinner.

  • We have a FP deluxe booster chair that we used a ton with my older son. We used it on vacations, at restaurants & when visiting other people's houses. We also used it at home as his primary booster once he was no longer interested in sitting in the high chair. It was probably my most used baby item. It straps very securely to a regular chair so I've never felt that it was unsafe. I've also used it just sitting on the floor if a chair wasn't available (like in an RV).

  • Don't know if its the type of thing that you're looking for, but we have the Chicco travel seat.  We bought it with DD#1 and use it now for #2.  It is fantastic and it comes apart very easily to store in its own travel bag with a shoulder strap. The only downside is that it doesn't work on patio/glass tables or some restaurant tables that are very wobbly.  Usually if we're out we end up using the restaurant high chairs anyway.  I think we used it for DD#1 until she was about 3 years old.  Most of the fabric also comes off to wash it, which is great.

  • I haven't posted on here in forever, but was lurking tonight.

I have the Summer Infant Take Two seat - it can either be a hook on seat OR you can strap it to a chair. I mostly used it at my mom's house, but also took it on vacation. The ability to strap it to the chair came in handy when I was unable to hook it to the table.

When you attach it to a chair, you can use it with or without the tray.

Before that, I used a Chicco one - I thought it was a better design, but it didn't have a tray, an could only be used as a hook-on.

We have this one and love it! In fact, I oftem give it for shower gifts and everyone I know loves it, too. Awesome and cheap.

  • We have the Chicco one PP linked. We use it a ton! Both to bring to restaurants and to bring to our family's houses since some don't have high chairs for us to use. It folds and travels fairly compact as well, so that's a plus.

  • I recently purchased the Tie Chair. Its a fabric highchair that can fit right in your diaper bag. It fits most general dining chairs. I don't have the website but I'm sure if you google it you can find it. I only got it a few days ago so I haven't actually used it yet. I just thought it would be useful for when we go to my parents house or friends who do not have children.
