Contractions?

Lately, a few times during the day I noticed that my stomach seems to get rock hard for about 30-40 seconds and then gets a little softer. There is no pain with it, just something I notice. Are these a type of contraction?

Thanks ladies! It was weird having no pain or discomfort with them when I have had other contractions that were more uncomfortable.
