Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Babies at movies?

Has anyone taken a baby to see a movie?  DH and I love to go on the weekends before noon (so cheap!) so it's never very crowded... I'm fine nursing in public with a cover-up but I'm worried about the noise level.  We want to see Bolt and I feel like the noise wouldn't be too bad with that movie but what about movies like Australia?  Just wanted to see what others think, obviously I'm a first time mom :)

Re: Babies at movies?

  • The noise is startling. I went to a mommy friendly movie at our local theater and their "low volume for babies" was still a bit loud. Although, she slept through it all!  See if any of the theaters in your area offer this service, that way you don't have to worry about bothering people because they have been warned!

  • Babies have ears that are really sensitive - and the volume at the theatres is always really loud. Ask if your theatre does baby flix - they play the movies with the lights on a little bit, and the sound turned down. I haven't gone, but I've heard about it at my theatre and I want to go.
  • There is a theater about 45 minutes away that does baby friendly movies during the week.  I might try and go with a friend before my maternity leave is up but it's only offered once a week and DH wouldn't be able to come.  My DD is 6 weeks btw - she can sleep through two loud dogs at home but obviously I'm still a little nervous.
  • Another thing to consider is that if your baby does wake up for any reason, then the whole crowd will be pissed about the crying baby.

Unless you don't care what other people think. Then that's fine. I always worry!

  • I'd take her, as long as you're ready to get up and dash out of the theatre if she starts crying.  The noise wouldn't worry me one bit, but that would depend on your baby.  DS is really laid back and goes to our crazy loud church service (the noise level is similar to a concert) every week, he snoozes through the whole thing.

  • I have been thinking about taking DD and hoping she doesnt cry.  DD rarely crys but she does coo a lot which would distract otheres.  I may just have my mom watch her so we can go see four christmasase
