Soooo Hungry!

Any other EBF mom's feel like you're starving? I feel like I can never get enough to eat, and Henry rarely lets me, anyway. I've tried telling him, "Mama has to eat so YOU can eat," but you just can't rationalize with a newborn!

Re: Soooo Hungry!

  • Me! I feel like I'm starving and like I can't drink enough! It's hard to get anything done between feeding and diaper changes.

  • Yup. We stock up on cheese sticks and fruit/energy bars so I can eat while feeding. Sometimes I feel jittery from not being able to eat a real meal.
  • Around 2 weeks I was hungry all the time. I was pretty apathetic about food in the hospital and once I starting being interested in food again I couldn't get enough. It leveled off after a week to 10 days.

  • Totally normal. I made the mistake of putting Ian down in his swing so I could make a sandwich. Little guy made sure I knew that was not okay!  Argh.

  • I eat constantly. I haven't lost any weight in weeks though, so I guess I'm just maintaining. I definitely snack constantly.

Yes! I'm borderline dehydrated. I drink and drink and drink and drink. I usually go to bed with a bottle of water I fill up twice in the middle of the night.

  • I haven't felt full since lo was born and I eat three real meals a day! For those who aren't why not feed your self and your baby at once?? I stil at the table with my family bf and eat there's very little you need two hands to eat.  Or wear your baby while cooking and eating it calms them down it's very important to take care of you too.

  • Same here.  I think I'm up to five meals a day.  I wish this baby liked being worn -- she doesn't yet.  So I'm not preparing home-cooked meals anytime soon.

DH has stepped up to feed me things he knows how to do, like hot dogs, hamburgers, and breakfast burritos.  Guy food.  And I'm loving to snack on Greek yogurt with a handful of granola thrown in.  That and oatmeal are my daily go-to snacks right now.

  • Me too!  Bottomless pit...I feel like a teenage boy!  DH has been discreetly side eyeing me for constantly eating but I can't help it, I'm way more hungry than I was during pregnancy.  Will this level off at some point?  My stomach growls all night!

You actually require more calories BF than pregnant. I remember it leveling off around 6 mos with a peak at 4-6.

  • The first couple of weeks were crazy for me. I would eat, eat some more, and still be hungry. I was definitely more hungry than I ever was when I was pregnant. My appetite is still more than it used to be, but it is less than it was during those first couple of weeks. I actually took my blood sugar to make sure that the GD hadn't stuck around because I was starving all the time, incredibly, incredibly thirsty and dropping weight like it was my job (unfortunately, that stopped at about 3 weeks pp). Fortunately, my sugar level was good. Smile

  • Yup... but I think it's because I forget to eat!  Sleep is my first priority after baby so if I have a choice between going back to bed and eating, I'll pick bed.  Also, I don't have time to snack much.  Lately I've been eating meals while pumping.  And I drink a ton of water, yet it seems like I never have to pee... weird.

  • Im hungry all the time, but this milk free diet has me hating eating. DH drops a plate of food in front of me most nights, but other that its just whatever I can grab. I can't wait till the baby needs to eat less often. And I feel like im always dehydrated, I can't wait till the end of next week when we move out of the desert.

Next pregnancy I need to be rich, so I can hire a personal chef to serve me three times a day.
