Repost: Cost of Maternity Coverage & Delivery

Hey ladies. I posted last week before the format switched again I think my post disappeared.

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had cash paid for OB coverage & delivery of a baby. We are not pregnant currently. But of course would like to be. But it looks like cash pay may be our only option for the next few years as we have private insurance.

Anyone have experience with this. I'd love to hear a ballpark cost point. Anyone negotiate prices with doctors/hospitals. Just wondering if this is a possibility.

    I haven't but have many friends who have. It is approx $10k or so. You can negotiate with your doctor and a lot with the hospital. The most expensive part from what I've been told is the doctor. With all the visits, tests, bloodwork, U/S. The hospital can be alot more flexible. There is really no negotiations when you have insurance....believe me we tried because our deductible is so high.

    My doctor was $3000.  We had an addition $1500 in test and blood work (that was separate from the doc. It was Quest). All together it was going to be $10,000.

    Dr. is $3000 plus lab work which is around $400 then ultrasound at $875.  The hospital (c-section) is $6300 plus $1500 for the anesthesiologist.  I know there will be other cost so we are guess in the end it will be about 14k.

    I had a c-section for my third and it was just under 20k

    I am tying to stay around 14k but we know that there are many unexpected things that happen.  I wouldn't be shocked if we end up in the range of 20k.
