First let me just say thank you to all the other June mommies for answering questions, making me laugh and feel more informed since I joined in Jan.!!! You guys are awesome and congrats to those of you who already delivered and good luck and God bless those who are still waiting!
Here is Victoria's story. (Due date was June 29th and she arrived June 10th a full 3 weeks early).
I went to some garage sales with my sister last Saturday morning and felt some very minor cramping on left side but was not having any contractions. At 3 :30pm my husband and I were laying in bed watching a movie and I left a gush. I stood up and more amniotic fluid kept leaking out. I started laughing uncontrollably because I could not believe that it was finally happening....my husband didn't believe me that my water had broken because I kept laughing. I took a quick shower, finished packing the bag (it was 1/2 packed) and we were on our way. I went through 3 pairs of pants before getting to the hospital since I was still leaking amniotic fluid (no one told me this could happen) and continued to leak fluid for the rest of the night.
I was about 2 cm dialated at 6:30pm with no real contractions. We walked around for awhile but still no contractions. Started Pitocin at 9:30pm and then the party started! I've had hypertension for 11 years and my blood pressure was outta control during labor/delivery! I fully planned on a PAIN free birth and wanted to get an epidural when the pain got too intense. With me being a FTM the MD said that I would probably deliver about 6am Sunday morning. Haha. The contractions got stronger and stronger very quickly with some intense back pain. I was dialated to 3.5 cm at 11:30ish and asked for epidural. While they were drawing some labs I told the phlebotomist and my hubbie that I felt A LOT of pressure and needed to push. My hubbie ran into the hall to the nurses station saying that we neeed the MD and I was going to push.
All of a sudden the bright lights came on and 4 nurses were in the room and my MD was there in a few minutes. The anesthelogist walked into the room right before I started pushing but was about 30 mins too late. I went from 3.5 cm to 10 cm in a little over an hour! The pain but unreal at the time but nature really does take over and it was SOOOO worth it! During 3 contractions and 7 mins of pushing (according to the monitor) my little daughter was born at 12:44am!!!!! She is perfect and beautiful and weighed 6lbs 7 oz. and is 18 inches long! All of the nurses and MD said they were impressed with my labor going SO quickly with being a FTM but I should have known since my mom and both sisters had quick labors too.
We are home and doing great. It is day 5 and we just had 1st MD appointment. She now weighs 5lb. 13 oz. and is a breastfeeding champ even though my milk has not officially come in all the way. I guess it's just a waiting game at this point. For all those FTM planning on breastfeeding, make sure to take advantage of the lactation consultants.
Good luck to you all and God bless! Christine and Victoria
