Next question, Pillows?

I have been trying to do some research on pillows. As a little girl I had a "favorite" pillow. When is it safe to use them? Avery now has a small fleece square blanket just big enough to cover her and her baby.

When will you introduce a pillow?

  • We probably won't introduce a pillow or blanket until he goes to a regular bed.  He doesn't stay in one spot in the crib so I don't think a pillow or blanket would even work at this time.

  • M loves pillows in general and will toss herself on top of them whenever she gets a chance. She has a little pillowpet that she got for her birthday, which is kept on the floor by her toddler bed. We'll probably wait til around 2 to give her a pillow to sleep with.

I've been wondering the same thing. He's slept on one of our really thin really small couch pillows on the living room before and he slept great. He always want to lay down on my pillow whenever were in bed together or I'm laying on the floor with him. I'm not comfortable yet to put one in his crib though

Same here.  She has a stuffed puppy in her crib that she sometimes lays her head on so I guess that serves as a pillow for now!

  • Olivia got a pillow pet for Christmas and has used it ever since. She loves to lay on it (or toss it around then jump on it. At first I was a bit worried but DH said'"Oh she'll be fine" and she has been. Granted she does roll around and doesn't always wake up sleeping on it but she sure loves it.

This.  DD has an A & A security blanket and that's enough.  She moves around too much to actually use a blanket or pillow.  Maybe next winter we'll try a blanket since she'll be older.

  • I have asked the pedi about when it was ok to introduce both a pillow and a blanket.  She said at 1 year.  I cover G with a blanket at nap time but not at night - he is still in a sleep sack at night.  I don't know when we will give him a pillow.  He sleeps on his tummy and when I do that I never use a pillow - just not comfy.  Plus he moves around too much right now so he would never be on it.
  • I don't know....maybe once she's in a toddler bed? I still don't even have a blanket in her crib. I think she'd be fine at this point with a blanket, but she always plays around in her crib for a few minutes before she falls asleep (I see her on the video monitor), so I don't think a blanket would do her any good right now. I recently bought her larger sleep sacks that I use for both naps and bedtime. Other than that, she just has a very small lovey in there with her and that's it.

  • I have no idea what the "right" answer is, but I just gave DS1 a little pillow pet thing in his crib a couple months ago...he was more than 2.5yrs old at that point.

  • I think we did sometime between 18-24 months.  I can't exactly remember.  We did a light blanket sometime after one year.  DS has been with a blanket for a few months now.
FYI - they sell "toddler sized" pillows.  DD uses a regular one fine.

  • I haven't even thought of giving DS a pillow yet. We started letting him use a blanket pretty early on, light weight and he doesn't move around in his sleep, but I just don't think he needs a pillow. Probably won't be until he's out of the crib and in a big boy bed.

I have the quilt from his bedding set folded at the opposite end of where I put Mason down and every night for the past week when I have gone to check on him before I go to bed, he's laying on it like a pillow.

  • I probably wont give DD a pillow untill we move her to a bigger bed. Although DD does get a blanket at night in her crib which she does fine with. She moves so much that sometimes she uss like a pilliow and lays on it.

  • M throws everything out of her crib immediately.  She still wears a sleep sack at night, and won't keep a blanket in her crib during naps.  She also rolls all over the crib, so a pillow would be pointless even if she didn't throw it over the edge.

  • DD sleeps with a regular pillow. I think I gave it to her about a month ago and ever since she started STTN. Some nights she'll sleep completely on top of it, other nights just her head and then some nights not at all. It just depends. She does totally fine with it so I am not worried.
