7 days PP and vaginal wall sagging- need encouragement/advice.

I posted this on NB forum, but was hoping someone on here may be able to help. I went to see our midwife today because I saw something covering the entrance to my vagina. Freaked me out BIG TIME. I thought I had uterine prolapse. Well, she examined me and told me that it looked like what I saw in my mirror was actually the posterior vaginal wall, that is sagging. She said that by my six week appointment all should be well, and it should correct itself. But to do kegels and to take it easy. She assured me that my uterus and cervix were still high and intact. Has anyone ever dealt with this, in the early post partum days? This news has really brought on the baby blues for me.  Its hard to focus on anything but this. Please offer any encouragement or advice that you may have. TIA.

  • Sorry, double post.

  • I haven't had this particular issue but don't let it overwhelm you.  Everyone who just had a baby is healing, one way or another.  If theres nothing to be done except rest & kegels, just do that & focus on your baby.  In just a few short weeks things will be better all around.

  • Dont worry about it! Remember that there was stress and pressure on your vaginal walls for many many months, and things are going to take to heal and go back to normal.

About a year after I had DD I went to the dr for the same issue and was told I had a collapsed vaginal wall and some bladder prolapse. She recommended physical therapy to me and said it can work wonders (they do much more than kegels to re-strengthen the muscles). She said in some extreme cases some minor surgery is required. I actually never went to the physical therapy, but have just had my 3rd successful vaginal delivery. I'll keep an eye on it as I heal and go to the physical therapy if required. Otherwise it actually doesnt cause me any problems. I know its there (as in, can be felt from the outside some times), but has never caused problems for me in terms of sex or incontinence. It has, however, made it impossible to use tampons.

Mainly though, give your body time to heal, and dont worry too much about it at this point! It'll likely heal and be just fine :)

  • Aww, that would be hard to deal with.  I would try to rest and focus on baby, trust your doc that all will be well by 6 weeks pp.  Our bodies are resilient and heal quickly, so I hope it resolves soon.  Hang in there.
