  • We are looking into agencies too. I have contacted Lifetime adoptions near us as it was referred by my hairdresser that adopted through them. She had wonderful things to say. They (I think) are a facilitator but I am not sure what that means (we are new at this).

We have an ad on Adoption Smiles... I think we've only had one contact come through there and it was a scammer.  But, the listing is free, so I keep it up there just in case.

As for the agencies you listed, I don't know anything about them.  Side note, I could never work with an agency that has a grammar error in their name, which is what turned me off immediately to A Act of Love when we were researching agencies.

  • Quick response-

A Act of Love has had some recent bad press.  Dig deep when you google them to read more.

There's a lot I liked about Lifetime but after our journey (long and arduous) I can never recommend an agency/facilitator that requires such a large chunk of money upfront.  Reason-  if you don't like them, if they arne't a good fit, and you've waited 20 months w/o any leads, you are sort of stuck there because they are holding so much of your money.  Good or bad, I can't recommend Lifetime based on their financial arrangement.

Me too! I thought the exact same thing.

Plus, I received information from them, and their fees are very vague and confusing...and add up to quite  a bit of money. Something with an escrow account for birth mother expenses, and no ability to cap the amount, which I do NOT like. You are responsible for all birth mother expenses, no matter how high they go. We've only been looking at agencies that allow you to cap, and then you are presented only to those birth mothers within your budget.

We are actually most likely going with Lifetime. We decided this week. The fee issue does worry me, but when we weighed all pros and cons, Lifetime was our favorite choice. They will also allow me to pursue IVF if we decide to do so, and will still actively seek birth mothers for us. We would just have to be certain prior to doing IVF that we would be okay with having a baby through IVF and adopting potentially at the same time. And we believe at this moment that we are. But our plans of doing a 2 embryo transfer would move to a single :)

  • We used LIfetime Adoptions and could not have been more pleased. We had an awesome experience. We felt like they understood our desire for a child and worked hard to make it happen for us. We signed up in June, went active in July, matched in August, and DD was born in October. I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Lifetime.

  • We researched A Act of Love at the beginning, too, and were not impressed.  The grammar turned me off, but they were really vague and the fee structure was crazy.  I felt like we would be tying up a lot of money with no real guarantee.

The girl I talked to was also all about saying what I wanted to hear.  She would ask what we were looking for with certain things, and then make a statement that I knew she was making up.  For instance, when I told her that we were moving and wanted to try to move things along before then, she assured me that they would have "lots and lots of Caucasian newborns available around then."  This was 7 months in the future, and there was no way she knew that.  I would rather someone be truthful than feed me false hope and take my money.

  • Thanks everyone!

The grammar thing TOTALLY TURNS ME OFF. Matter of fact, it drives me absolutely bonkers. That being said, I would be willing to really look at them if they got glowing remarks. Alas, they have now been taken out of the running. A Act of Love, indeed. That is elementary English. Geez!
