Eczema v. baby acne?

Anyone's baby dealing with this?  At first I thought it was baby acne - it started about 2 weeks ago.  Now it is looking less like pimples and more like it could be eczema?  I am going to call the pedi on Monday (I should've called today), but I'm curious as to other's experiences.  I did a google image search and the pictures of baby acne versus baby eczema on the face look very similar.

Re: Eczema v. baby acne?

  • My baby had what looked like acne. It progressively got worse and spread to her chest and back. My pedi said it's a common rash and gave me 1% cortisone to put on it.

  • My pedi said that they are very similar but that LO had eczema because it kept spreading. (FWIW he thinks it maybe a sign of milk intolerance when LO's fussiness and mucusy diapers are considered with the eczema)

  • Mine had red, inflamed-looking acne all over her face all of a sudden one day when she was 5 weeks old.  Her doc told me to wash her face 2-3 times per day with a soft, damp washcloth and that it would probably be gone in a month or two regardless of what I did.  It took about 2-3 weeks of the face washing and the acne is now gone.  There was an in between phase in which her face looked good but felt dry and scaly until the old acne-riddled skin finished shedding.  I know nothing about eczema.
