What is one of the best prenatal vitamins?

Went to our first OBGYN appointment since we found out we are pregnant and I was instructed to get prenatal vitamins with 800mg of folic acid. But after doing some research and reading some of the other ladies blogs I want to make sure the one I purchased is a decent brand. I have Centrum Specialist Multivitamin/Multimineral Supplement DHA Supplement Prenatal. If any ladies can give us some advice on this from previous experience it would be great! Thanks!

  • I am using the Target brand. Used them last pregnancy too.

  • I got a soft gel from Nature Made because I have a hard time swallowing pills and the gummies were making my sick. But I think that as long as you check the label all for DHA and Folic Acid any prenatal with those would be fine.
  • I think you will get a lot of different opinions on this.  I personally love the Rainbow Light Complete Prenatal System.  They are food sourced so they are much easier on the stomach and they have added supplements to help combat constipation and nausea.  When I comparison shopped they also seemed to have larger percentages of all the various vitamins.  Buying them locally at Whole Foods they are very expensive but if you get them from Amazon they work out to be about $12/month with subscribe and save.

I take these. They were on sale for $9.99 at Target for 30 day supply. I also add a DHA supplement by Expecta.

  • I bought mine before I consulted a doctor. I like them because they're gel caps and relatively easy to swallow. Honestly, that was the number one selling factor.

They make me sick though. I hate their lousy guts. I try to take them at night with a little bit of food, but I need to eat so much that I'm freaking sick of eating! (Which is REALLY weird for me.)

    They're CVS brand with DHA.

OMG! thank you! I NEED those. They sound fantastic!
  • I have been so sick that I was told it is OK to take just the folic acid 800mcg. That's the most important thing in the beginning. Make sure whatever you take it's got the 800mcg. The recommended value has changed. I was taking another food based prenatal about a year before TTC, but it only had 600mcg (and couldn't hold them down).

Glad I could help :) Just be sure to note the serving size (6 a day) and add a dha supplement to the mix.
