C-sections

What happens at the 6 month post-partum visit?

After my labor, I'm a little dissatisfied the midwife practice I was seeing during pregnancy. During my 6 week postpartum visit, they had told me to come back at 6 months for follow up, but I'm thinking maybe I could just skip it? I need to find an OB anyway since I had a c-section, so what would I be missing if I did go to the 6 month postpartum check up?

  • I was scheduled for one, but I cancelled it. They were just going to do a pap, which I just had done when I found out I was pregnant just over a year ago.

  • I only had a 2 week and a 6 week PP visit after my c/s,  Maybe they will do your annual exam?

This. I will be going back in August for my annual pap but nothing for post-partum checkup.

I had MAJOR complications after my c-section resulting in a 1 month hospital stay(including a week in CCU)   I had 6 week PP appt(actually it was closer to 8 weeks) and my OB told me she would see me in Aug 2012.

I have never heard of a 6 week post partum visit.

ETA-came to see new responses and saw my major typo....meant to say never heard of 6 MONTH visit

  • If you're due for a pap that's probably what it is. Skip if you want to. I have an appt next week (7 mo pp) because I am due for my annual pap. To be honest, I'd probably skip it if I didn't need more bc.

  • I only had the 2wk visit to check the incision and the 6wk for I think a pap and a cervical check to make sure everything was closed. I had a c/s but b/c I never dilated past 1cm so he wanted to make sure that I was closed up. Then they told me to come back 1yr post partum for my annual.

  • I didn't have one. But, if my OB/midwife told me to come back, I probably would have. You never know, maybe they saw something they wanted to check on. I'd say you have nothing to lose by going.

  • I am not have a 6 month visit.  I opted to have my pap done t my 6 week pp visit, a month early, so I wouldn't have to come back next month.  Since I have had an abnnormal one in the past my insurance will cover it early.

  • Thanks Ladies! Glad to hear I won't be missing anything. I could use the extra time to find a new OB practice anyway. I'm not really interested in going back to this midwife practice and forcing myself to be nice to people who really just disappointed me in my hour of need.
