On day 5, I went to my OB and she found fluid building behind my incision. By day 7, I had developed a unidentified infection. By day 9, my incision had ruptured in one place and I had to be hospitalized for infection, abdominal abscess, severe cellulitis, and developing sepsis. On day 13, (while in the hospital) another place ruptured. I was in the hospital on IV antibiotics for 10 days. So, yeah, I was really, really sick.
My issue is now, 10 weeks later, I am *still* packing this stupid incision in two places. Well, I'm not doing it, DH is. But I go back to work next week, and I really want to be done with this, but its not quite healed. Anyone had to deal with wound care this long, or after going back to work?
Re: Anyone have to pack their incision long term?
I'm somewhat on the same boat. I believe this is my 9th or 10th week as well. Both holes were about 1 cm. My left one (which opened up first) finally stopped draining sometime this week and is just like a small paper cut according my my nurse. The one on the right is still draining. I too am waiting for all of this to end. Last night I had a total crying fest cause I'm fed up with it. I want my normal body back to get to do more things again.
Good luck. Keep us updated!
I'm sorry that you are still dealing with wound packing. I had to do the same thing (for 6 weeks) and it really sucked. Have you talked to your OB about packing it still? Are you supposed to follow up with her at all? Has there been no improvement in the past 2-3 weeks? I don't think that it would hurt to go back in to get some reassurance and guidance on getting the last little bit healed. Good luck!
I remember feeling the same way. I was not scared at all during my c-section and thought that having an open wound afterwards was much worse. I felt so much better once things were closed up and I could move around without feeling like my body was broken.
