Lets talk about Music

When i was pregnant with DD my mom insisted i listen to all the classical stuff with her because it would "enhance her brain" ummmmm Actually the studies have disproven this bit of information. BUT! When i was pregnant with DD the Taylor Swift "Speak Now" album came out and that's practically all i listened to. To this day when we play it if she's fussy she calms down and starts giggling and trying to sing along and what not. She enjoys all types of music almost... haha but ironically doesnt really like classical.

Who knows what i'll listen to with this baby but i wouldnt mind it being some more Taylor. hahaha.

Are you going to have baby listen to music in the womb (headphones? Just whatever your listening to? What kind of music?

I said, "Oh my, what a marvelous tune" It was the best night, never would forget how we moved. The whole place was dressed to the nines, And we were dancing, dancing Like we're made of starlight Like we're made of starlight. ~TS AlternaTickers - Cool, free Web tickers Lilypie Second Birthday tickers Photobucket

  • I have not given this much thought... I like all kinds of music so I imagine the baby will get to hear it all. Both sets of grandparents live out of town, so I think it might be nice to record their voices for the baby to listen to sometimes. :-)

With DD I would play music on my iPhone and just put it at my belly. I played all kinds of music, from classical to rock. There are a couple of Jim Brickman songs that after birth I continued to play that she likes. But in general, we're musical people and we play music for her all the time and she loves it.

It's awesome to see her recognize a song that I've played before and danced around the room to her with, she gets a big smile on her face.

  • I've seen the pregnancy ear bud ads, but don't think I'll be partaking. It feels kind of a cruel. What if the baby doesn't like the music? lol

  • Me and DH agreed the baby will listen to what we listen to, my mom also suggested classical but I didnt want to be stuck listening to it when the baby needed calming down. So me and DH agreed on these, among others: Beatles, Billy Joel, Elton John, Ed Sheeran, Blink 182, Toby Keith, Dropkick Murphy's, Disney Soundtracks, and when my hubby isnt home I will squeeze in some Backstreet Boys.

  • I love music & I always sing along in the car so I think my LO will be exposed to a lot but I won't use headphones on my belly.
  • I didn't play much music while pregnant, but we played a ton while he was a newborn and now. He loves music! The baby Einstein lullaby cds were such a great investment. It would calm him down during those early months when he would freak out on the changing table, and we would play it on a loop at night to help him sleep.

  • We made two playlists: classical/instrumental and current favorites (aka, a lot of DMB).

During labor we listened to DMB. Then, during my c/s my OB asked me what I wanted to listen to and I just blurted out Third Day. He said, I have that! SO, the song "Tunnel" was playing in the operating room when my son was delivered.

    A few lyrics:

There's a light at the end of this tunnel

Shinin' bright at the end of this tunnel
    For you, for you

    So keep holdin' on

I thought it was so perfect. =) Just wanted to share...

Also, once we were home, we had the latest DMB cd playing almost non stop in his nursery during sleep times, nursing times, rocking times, etc. It was the Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. IMO, it was the perfect combination of music for us and my son's nursery was a very relaxing place.

Now, my son (turning 3 this weekend) is in love with anything instrumental with fast runs. He wants me to turn it up, turn it on and he wants to get down to it.

I always have music of all different kinds on.  DS loves to dance, but his fav. is Michael Jackson.  When I was pg with DS I couldn't sleep and spent many nights playing Plants Vs. Zombies (with the controller on my tummy of course).  Went to play it the other day and he went nuts when he heard the music!  Still not sure if this is a good thing or not!

  • The baby gets to listen to whatever I'm in the mood for. I like to listen to musicals at work, so the baby may come out tap dancing. ;)
