CD moms--washing and rinse temps?

What is everyone's washing routine?  I saw 11kacey said on another post that it is now recommended to do a hot rinse first?  I have a front loader and use All free and clear.  Here's what I usually do--how does yours compare?

1. "Pre-wash"--I usually do this cold, no detergent.

2. Heavy duty wash with extra rinse--my options are hot wash cold rinse or warm wash warm rinse.  I usually do hot/cold.

3. A couple more "pre-wash" cycles as extra rinses--sometimes I do hot, sometimes cold.  Not sure which is the best.

Re: CD moms--washing and rinse temps?

  • I do a prewash in cold water, no detergent.

I wash with detergent on a hot/cold (don't know what that means that is just want the setting says).  Then I rinse once or twice more usually in hot water again.

I feel like maybe I'm not rinsing enough since you all add extra rinse cycles!

  • Our washer has a sanitary cycle that is like extra hot and runs for at least 1:50 minutes... not sure what all the other settings are, but they always come out sparkly..

I didn't used to rinse so much but I am fighting ammonia now so I am trying to do some extras with each wash so hopefully I won't have to strip.

  • You're hard core with all those rinses. lol

    I only do 3:

    1. Pre-rinse on cold, no detergent

    2. Full wash, on hot, with detergent

    2. Extra rinse on cold, no detergent

So far, no problems but I've only been CDing for 4 months or so.
