zoloft??

Im having depression issues girls and im was wondering if zoloft is safe to take while being pregnant?? I lost my mom in March and im having issues, just over all trying to deal with the loss. My OB said it was fine.. but ive seen some things on taking zoloft while pregnant can cause birth defects. Has any of you took it while being pregnant?

I took it in 2010 and got off it,Hmm now im wondering if I should take it..Confused

What do you girls think??

thanks and god bless Smile

Re: zoloft??

  • I have been on lexapro for a long time and it helps a lot. I went off of it for a few weeks bc I was pregnant and seriously lost my sh*t. It makes a HUGE difference to me. So know that you do have options. You need to weigh the pros and cons. I did with my dr and it made a lot more sense for me to be on it.

  • I've been on Lexapro with this pregnancy. I'm trying to wean off right now. My OB has been very supportive and basically said that there is a 1 in a 1000 chance of a problem related to the medication. Its a very specific heart defect. I believe it is the same for most SSRI anti-depressants. It all comes down to a benefit and risk scenario. If you are not functioning which includes getting enough nutrition and rest than the risks of depression, anxiety and stress on your body are bad for baby. I know that my OB and I discussed Zoloft as an option for me to go back on after I have the baby b/c it is safe to breastfeed on. I've found the support of my therapist and my OB have been the best combination...Good Luck!!

I am on Zoloft and the pros out weigh the cons for me.  I am a better person on them  Last LO was born with no problems (like the ones you see on TV advertisements)

Thats how I was. I was deff an more relaxed person when I was on it. I wanted to wait till the baby was born but I think my anxiety is out weighing everything. personally I was just freaking out because im pregnant and didnt wanna take Zoloft while being pregnant. but your right there are more pros then cons when it comes to taking it.. so i think im gonna take it Smile my OB just has me on 50mg back when i use to take it. I was on 150mg and I was always in a better mood then when i was on it.

thanks for the comments girls :)

I'm on a different mental health med and I've been taking it through most of my pregnancy.  The midwife I had my first appointment with took me off of it (along with most of my other meds at the time since they try to keep you as med free as possible), but my OB put me right back on it two weeks later because she said I'd already been on it for the first several weeks of the pregnancy anyway and a stressing out unstable mommy was not good for the growing baby, either.  I will say that her decision to put me back on it shocked my psychiatrist, and he made a note in my file, probably to cover his own hinney in case there was an issue down the road, but I haven't had any problems so far.
