The stocking I have I had since I was born. My Great-Grandmother made it for me as she did with all the great grandchildren. Before she got "sick" I had her make 4 extra stockings (I have 3 my brother took one) So the girls each have a stocking made by their great-great-grandmother. I hope they keep it and use it forever like me.
Do you buy new ones every year or keep the one you have?
Re: Poll:Stockings, new every year or keep the old one?
We keep the ones we have. As a "new" family, we all have matching, but Christmas at my mom's house involves stockings, and I get the same one that my grandmother knitted for me back in 1979!
I love it! I hope, someday, that we don't all have PBK stockings, and rather, have ones that mean something like the ones my sis and I had (have).
You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.

Growing up we always had new ones that went with a theme. If we got a bunch of skiing stuff then we had oversized hiking socks, if my mom went all girly with massages and mani pedis for our stocking then we had big fluffy ones.
For our family, DH and I surprised eachother with handmade stockings that we made for eachother for our first Christmas together 8 years ago. DH made the dogs had made stockings when we got them, and I id a handmade one for DD last year. I think he will probably make DS his this year if he comes before Christmas. We will always use the same ones (as long as the one I made DH holds up...I made it in my dorm room without a sewing machine so it is starting to pull apart at the seams.
