sip n see/ christening party help also posted on babyshower

We were planning to have a sip n see for the baby(no gifts). In my family we have a party for every holiday, baby, etc. I was also planning to have a reception of some sort(dinner) after his dedication/christening. I have decided that I don't want to do both, but my mom keeps asking me what am I going to do and when, she's so excited. I am not inviting that many ppl to the church but I did want to include everyone after the ceremony. How do I combine the two? How do I word the invitations? Also I usually rent out a space but I'm thinking of doing it at the park. We have some nice shelters at the park. I would like it to be casual but still nice. My colors will be baby blue and yellow. What type of food should I serve? I really didn't want to grill although it's at the park. I'll bring burners for the food if I have to, but I do not want to cook out. I want it to be simple chic. Something nice and summery. Tea and lemonade etc. I just had my lil boy on Sunday. So it will be in about 6-8wks. All ideas are appreciated

It's a party after the baby is born where people can come over and see you and meet the baby.  Usually not a gift giving event, just a get together.  I've never actually seen this done in real life but I've read about it a lot on the boards.

  • If you dont want to do a cook out I would go with cold foods then.  Pasta salads, potato salads, spinage salads... sandwhiches that can be kept cool and lots of snack food.  Not sure if that is "dinnery" enough but if you have enough options people will definitley get full.

I dont think it would be unusual to invite a small amount to the church and then however many people u want afterwards.  Seems like you would need two kinds of invitations.

  • I would make the main party just the "sip and see" and add an insert in the invitation to those that you want to come to the church for the dedication.

If you're doing it at a park and don't want to grill, I would probably get sandwiches catered or something like that.  It will be a pain for you to host the party, deal with the baby, and be dealing with keeping cold foods cold and hot foods hot.
