Good Morning! I'm sitting in my hospital bed right now watching my sweet little bug as I type this! I'm still floating on cloud nine!
So first off let me start by saying this pregnancy was night and day compared to my first, I started off having horrible hypermesis that lasted well into my second trimester followed by a brief time period of feeling good only to be followed shortly by all the complaints of the third trimester. I went into labor with my first at 36 weeks 6 days and delivered a beautiful baby girl via emergency c-section at 37 weeks. I just assumed this time around I wouldn't have to be pregnant much past 37 weeks this time around either. My repeat c-section was scheduled for June 21st but I didn't think I would ever make it that far. At my 36 week appointment I was no where near dilated and my doctor just kept telling me the 21st would be our day. I didn't even bother to have an internal done at my 37 week appointment because I was so bummed. That weekend I had 18 hours of contractions that amounted to nothing. They hurt a little but were nowhere near regular and didnt stop me from doing any of my regular activities. By the time I went to bed that night I slept threw them, woke up and they were gone! I had a doctors appointment on Tuesday at 37 weeks 5 days and couldn't believe I had dilated to two centimeters! Woohoo those little contractions were working! My doctor told me that as soon as I started having contractions that were 5 minutes apart for a half hour to call her. Well that night around 7:30 I started having those annoying sporadic yet consistent contractions again. They weren't even worth timing and seriously felt like strong Braxton hicks. By 10 that night they started coming closer together but were still all over with timing some were 6 minutes apart some were 5. By 11:00 I decided to call my doctor in hopes she might bring me in. She asked me over the phone if I thought I could sleep through them and I totally lied and said no. I just had this fear that I would wake up in the middle of the night in full blown labor and wind up giving birth in an ambulance (thank you bumpie for posting a birth story of just that days before and scaring the crap out of me!). So my doctor said come on in! I figured I would get in there might be dilated to 3 centimeters and if I was lucky they might do my c-section in the morning. "Contractions" continued the whole way to the hospital and were about 7 minutes apart if we're talking averages. When I got to the hospital the nurses actually rolled their eyes when they heard how far apart my contractions were and gave me that "you're totally going home" look. Well they checked my cervix and I was already 5 centimeters dilated! Everything from that point on felt like a whirlwind. IV's were started and before I knew it I was walking into the operating room to get my spinal. The nurses kept saying to me they couldn't believe I was in labor and feeling like I felt. I kept telling them m pain scale was a five or six. C-section started at 1:00 a.m. and my little man was here at 1:27.
He was 7lbs, 1oz and 20.5" long. Totally perfect and I couldn't be more in love!
So ladies, the moral of my story is trust your instincts! Not all labor looks like it does on tv! You really never know when it might be the real thing and God knows none of us wanna be like the bumpie who had her baby in the back of an ambulance
Wish I could post his picture but I have no clue how to! Good luck to you all! You're babies will be here before you know it!
Re: Evan Michael is here! Short birth story, you might hate me after reading!
Congratulations
